Another Schatzi update

Greetings and Salutations all,

 

Schatzi continues to improve. We had to her the vet's last eve for a check

up to see how her lungs are doing and over improvement. The vet was very

pleased with her progress. Happy at the weight gain from 12.6 pounds to 14.1

pounds. Her temperature is normal. Her coat looks beautiful (said the vet) She

listened to her lungs and said they sound much better with only a few small

spots not healed yet. Her trachea still sounds bad though. She of course still

has to take her antibiotics and then we take her back next Tues. eve for

re-xrays of the lungs. If her lungs are clear, she will not need to continue on

the

meds. I have learned the trick with her for administering her liquid meds to

so that I can do it solo and she does not fight at all. I cover her eyes with

my left palm and wrap fingers around to the top of her jaw, then with the

right hand (syringe in hand) open the bottom jaw and squirt in the meds. It is

beautiful and so simple!! It is a technique that probably would work for most

dogs.

 

She is such a delightful little girl and SUCH a personality!! She is a

digger and a burier (very comical to watch this with her toys and pillows or

the

pillows on the couch). She likes to bring in something from the outdoors every

time she comes back in, be it a rock, a leaf, a piece of wood ....

something. It is quite comical. She is already starting to lose some of her

puppy

teeth.

 

She is quite the watcher (guard-wise) . She becomes very alert and still

when she hears things outside and listens intently to see if it is something

that is coming closer. SO far she is quite a quiet little girl, only occasional

woofs and those are in warning when she hears something she doesn't like. On

walks, she only does minor sniffing compared to what Tanzerin would do.

Instead she walks and watches all around her. John and I have no doubt she is

going to be very protective of oour home and may wind up being a stealth dog in

a

threatening situation where she may not give warning to the threat at all.

She has a squeaky toy that is a monkey that she plays very vigorously with,

biting it and making it squeaky and shaking it in her mouth (head going back and

forth quite rapidly and hard) " killing " the monkey. Tanzerin never played

with her toys like this. I can just see Schatzi catching a mouse and it doesn't

stand a chance!

 

I will post again if there are any changes but definitely next week after

the x-rays.
