Guest guest
This is the best article I've found on TCM and PMS. It is a very lengthy but thorough article. The article starts out by pointing out that not everything that gets labeled as PMS is real PMS or even a problem (imbalance). PMS has been defined by men. Very often these men see any assertiveness on the part of women as " abnormal " . In truth, increased assertiveness during part of a woman's menstrual cycle is normal because of the nature of the menstrual cycle which cycles between a predominance of Yang (activeness) and Yin (passiveness). The article is very careful to differentiate between women being more assertive at points in the menstrual cycle (normal) and the extreme irritability and " take no prisoners " mentality of Liver and other imbalances. (Imbalances which men also can suffer from.) But because of cultural indoctrination and the prejudices of some men, some women view any increase in assertiveness as abnormal when in fact it's very normal though uncomfortable to some men. Once the article differentiates between what I call " true PMS " and prejudices, it goes into the different symptoms of true PMS and their possible underlying Roots and treatments. This is an excellent article as are most of those that appear in the Journal of . >http://www.jcm.co.uk/premenstrual.html Victoria ______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
ok, I know I am not the best on this topic but since have honored and loved women in my life I have seen and heard many methods of treating pms.. one interesting one was Bonnie 2-3 hefty shots of southern hooch, or whisky ,, southern comfort,,, and a hot sitz bath... it was guaranteed to start a flow and ease the feelings... so said Bonnie... one thing brought up lately was appropriate for an oils list .. Epsom salt glow scrub on the low back kidney areas... take a cup or so of epsom salts and put in some protein shampoo and or essential oils of your choice and make a slurry a little crunchy on the epsom salt and then do the scrum on the lower back... Bonnie.. her method was more relaxing.. definitely ,, one could do both...why not? anyone want to estimate the value to a man of having an answer to pms?... jim Chris Ziegler wrote: > > Ya know, since I started exploring Women's Blood Mysteries MANY years > ago (A good book is " Honoring Menstruation " by Lara Owen) my menstrual > cycle has become MUCH friendlier, to the point we're good buddies who > look forward to the painless monthly get together now even! Guest guest
Hello All PMS will most definitely- as Chris shared, be eased by the honoring of the cycle and not dreading " the curse " Nutrition should be evaluated as well- I always recommend " Healing with whole foods " by Paul Pitchford and " Nourishing Traditions " by Sally Fallon for a wide range in nutritional awareness. Focus on High quality oils, proteins, leafy greens and many find avoiding dairy and wheat are helpful. A wonderful herb for symptoms of PMS is Motherwort. Taken as a tincture when symptoms appear (1 tsp in warm water- the tea is too bitter for me- and hasnt the same constituents, anyway) This will greatly help cramps, too. I use a blend of essential oils including geranium, clary and vetiver- very soothing. Acupuncture and chinese herbs are wonderful for balancing PMS complaints... Guest guest
Kim, My Women's Herbal Books says: Pulsatilla (anemone pulsatilla) is especially good for PMS. It does say not to use fresh (must be dried) and to use cautiously in small amounts. Also: Wild yam, blue cohosh, cramp bark and motherwort. It also says to drastically reduce or eliminate during this time: Sugar, alcohol, salt, coffee, tea, and CHOCOLATE (they have to be kidding) Also do not smoke. Guest guest
For cramps I'll take a combination of motherwort, mugwort (artemesia vulgaris) and cramp bark. I make a formula with even amounts of the tinctures and I take a teaspoon when I feel crampy and they usually go away within 20 minutes. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I just learned tonight in my hydrotherapy class that soaking the feet in water between 100 and 115 degrees works for cramps Indications: To relieve congestive headache: to relieve chest congestion: to relieve pelvic congestion(read cramps) Objectives: Local and reflex increase In blood flow through the feet and entire skin surface producing decongestion in internal organs and the brain Procedure: Water deep enough to cover ankle then cover the tub (a towel over a fairly large bucket would probably work) Contraindications: Sensitive to heat or hot water: skin lesions or wounds Time: 10 to 30 min Kimberly Smith [k_frog100] Wednesday, June 09, 2004 6:33 PM herbal remedies Herbal Remedies - PMS Any hints on how to deal with PMS, mainly cramps? Guest guest
A homeopathic remedy selected as your constitutional could work wonders. I know. It worked for me back in the day of periods and hormonal fluctuations. Seeing a professional homeopath is suggested. Also, Lunazon, Calmazon, Sumacazon and Illumination from Amazon Herb Co -- one capsule each daily -- has been just the ticket for many of my clients. And that's what I know. . . Naturally, exercise, good diet, yoga, meditation are the ideal order of the day for all of us. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, PMS is a broad term. Are you really in perimenopause? Are you approaching menopause? What other symptoms do you have? See the most common symptoms and signs here: http://tinyurl.com/yuq4u9 There are SO many natural approaches for symptom relief, however it's first important to identify what the REAL issue is. And, because hormones are constantly fluctuating wildly (in peri) many attempts will be frugal or work as a " band-aid " only briefly. One of the best ways to avoid mood swings is to simply keep your blood sugar balanced. Avoid sugar, refined flours, coffee and soda and give your body healthy proteins. Hope this helps some, Michelle http://www.holisticmenopause.com
Guest guest
There is an actual imbalance that happens in our brains during PMS! The zinc and copper level imbalance that occurs is the primary mechanism why PMS causes women to convert mild irritation to out-and-out rage. When the zinc and copper is out of synch, it is an automatic thing that happens in the brain, you truly go mad. It's not a weakness on your part it's the copper and zinc. And progesterone helps to restore that, estrogen makes it worse. More tips for dealing with PMS naturally: * If you smoke, quit. * Practice stress management: many of the symptoms of PMS are unpredictable and emotionally draining. This can be very stressful and can exacerbate your condition. * Regular exercise may reduce your risk of PMS altogether; exercising once you have symptoms (even though you may not feel like it) will reduce the symptoms you experience for that cycle; reduces stress and tension. * Take a daily, non-prescription multi-vitamin; discuss any other supplement needs with your physician. * Be sure to get an adequate daily intake of calcium (1,200 mg/day). * Additional magnesium, vitamins E and B6, and carbohydrate supplements might also be helpful. * Eat a well balanced diet; don't skip meals. * Reduce intake of caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar, and salt. * Enlist the support and understanding of friends and loved ones. Ask for understanding and help with tasks in advance to reduce stress and pressure * Try to get regular, sufficient sleep. * eat several small meals a day to minimize blood sugar fluctuations. * limit intake of sweets, red meats, and other fatty foods. * increase time for activities that bring enjoyment * Use a natural progesterone cream to balance out your hormones. Guest guest
Hi. I am new to this board, so hope noone minds I am jumping right in. I too deal with PMS symptoms every month. I recently started taking Krill Oil, a supplement similar to fish oil. This has helped me tremendously for two months now. My symptoms have just about dissapeared. Now, I do sell it but I am not biased. It has worked for me maybe it will for you too. Check out my website or someone elses. Just wanted to share my experience with it. Guest guest
So, when is it the perimenopause usually begins with women and how would I determine it is that and not something else? Guest guest
Blood tests can show whether you are peri, menopausal and post. While you are peri and menopausal you can still have PMS symptoms. These tests tell which hormones you are making and not making. And whether you have active ovary function. I have used the Unicity Meno and Meno Packs since 1995 when I started into menopause. Now that I'm the downside of menopause I still use them for the occassional hot flash and for the balance of hormones with excellent results. Guest guest
Hi I am by no means an expert crystal person, but when I read your post, Carnelian just popped into my head very loudly (I guess so I would listen and not just ignore), and then I got a little picture flash so I thought I should pass this on. The stone I pictured was a tumble a lovely oval stone with bulging sides like a little spaceship with lighter almost cleary/lemony/orange to richer orangey/red tones all the one stone... so hope you may have one that even slightly fits my description... Had a chuckle too, certainly dont want to read about you...so felt an urgency to let you know of my Carnelian healing thought lol.
