Also, should I buy a B- grade as opposed to C/D grade?~~ Greetings and Salutation Maria, First from a personal stand-point on gem *grade*, this is more important to a jeweler who is wanted the best clarity and perfection in a crystal for making jewelry. As far as working with the energy of the crystal, *grade* is unimportant because energy is energy. Just because it doesn't *look* pretty doesn't mean it doesn't work on a healing level. Heat treated Citrine - ALL Citrine is heat treated one way or another, that is how it forms. Amethyst turns into Citrine with the application of heat, be it heated by Mother Earth or man's techniques. This is how you have Ametrine - a mix of Citrine and Amethyst in one crystal. The entire crystal just was not exposed to the heat source for a long enough period of time for the whole piece to turn to Citrine. There are those who feel *man-made* Citrine is of lesser *value* not only on a monetary level (Mother Earth Citrine is more expensive then *man-made* Citrine) but also on an energy level. Personally I feel you go with what feels right for you. If you really want to get deep and technical about crystals being tampered with (so to speak) by man, then ALL crystals lose their pure energy as soon as they are harvested from Mother Earth because now man has tampered with them. Smokey quartz is a crystal that becomes Smokey from irradiation, again be it Mother Earth irradiation or man-induced. There are other treated crystals (most often quartz) where precious metals are used to put a pretty coating over top of the natural crystals, Titanium quartz, Aqua Aura Quartz, there is one with an opalescence coating that I forget the name for it. Dyed crystals (mostly the agate family) to me the energy is now rather blah, like they have a winter coat on in the middle of summer and can't take it off ... the bright pinks, blues and purples you will usually find agate in as dyed. We cannot forget about tumbled, cut and polished, or faceted crystal either. These are all man-altered pieces. Bottom line is, these all have their own unique purpose. It is up to you as the individual to determine if the man-altered crystals are for you or if you only want to work with crystals that are in a more natural state from Mother Earth. Hope this helps clarify a bit for you. Blessings to your day all. Hello, everyone, Being a novice I thought about making some crystals necklaces and bracelets to help out in whatever I need help. Now, I went to a site that gives several distinctions about the type of gems: dyed, heated, natural as well as grade D, C, B, A. Could anyone tell me what these things mean? I see that all the citrine is heated. Is this not good? Also, should I buy a B- grade as opposed to C/D grade? Thanks for the info. I would recommend looking at possible food allergies and/or environmental allergies. I have problems with eczema that I found out within the past year and a half are directly related to a food allergy to Soy. My allergic reaction to soy is digestive and skin related. So far not anaphylaxis related (thankfully!!) I have gone so far as to eliminate soy from all health and beauty aids as well. You would be amazed at how many non-food items contain some form of soy in them!! Since I have eliminated soy (to the best of my abilities) my eczema has been clearing up SLOWLY. I am not saying you have a soy allergy specifically, that you would have to determine for yourself (possibly with the assistance of an allergist). I am just pointing out a high probability of the eczema being some form of allergy. I had one doctor just want to prescribe steroidal ointment for my problem instead of trying to figure out the cause of the problem and then treat it. Hope this helps you a bit. Blessings to your eve all.
