Greetings and Salutations Jaff (and all), I feel enlightenment is just as personal as faith. Each person is going to have a slightly different feeling of what enlightenment is to them, just as each person's faith is different from the next person's. Enlightenment would be on a personal level of what brings each of us as individuals closer to the divine. Each person's path to the divine is personal and individual and only traveled by that individual. I wrote this poem a number of years (7or 8) ago that to me encompasses not just faith/spirtuality but also enlightenment. My Path by ReNauMoon Do not condemn me for I do not walk your path. It is only meant for one. I must choose my own path, but I still call you FRIEND My path is not yours. I must walk it alone. Though, at times our paths cross and run side-by-side, then stray again in life's wake. Accept my path as you accept me, for to walk another path, I am no longer free. I am no longer. It was inspired by a young lady whose parents are Christian and her heart and spirit where taking her down a different path. When my mother-in-law passed away 6 years ago, I included this poem in my eulogy to her (that I could not read I was too broken up by her passing, the minister read it). While she was a devout Christian (Presbyterian), she was very accepting of me and my children (calling them her grandchildren when she would introduce them). I was told by a number of the folks after her service that it was a beautiful eulogy I had written. So, while there will be common ground to a point, enlightenment spans all religions and all faiths on a personal and individual level. Blessings to your weekend all. Guest guest
nice question For me a question like this is so hard to answer in an intellectual format such as an email, I believe so much that we strive to grasp is intangible thru words. but I would say enlightenment is fully awakening to our true nature, as Dogen said, " to study the self is to forget the self, to forget the self is to be enlightened by all things. " I've always loved that quote. My whole life I have struggled with turning thoughts and emotions into words, finally realizing that there are some truths that have no defintions, no neat package that falls somewhere between A-Z. enlightenment would definitely fall into that category for me. I'm sure these ideas are not new to you, but I thought I'd share Hope everyone is well! much peace to you, Erica in Portland - jaffacakey2003<gaynor.james To: <@grou\ ps.com> Friday, November 17, 2006 4:37 PM [CrystalHW] enlightened.. how do you see it? Guest guest
As I think of it, this is what comes to my mind.Inlightenment is when you come to appoint in your life that you found out you are not always right, you no somethings but thier is always more to learn. To relize that thier is a higher being who watchs you as you go about your life not paying attention to his creations. To be enlightened is to relize that these things are real and can change your life if only you open, you eyes, your mind and use the compensation of your heart.
