Excerpts from Living With Crystals: Crystals in Your House

A quartz crystal cluster sparkling in the window, rhodonite by the

phone for patience during difficult conversations, fluorite on the

computer-these are a few of the ways visitors to Beyond the Rainbow

and Living with Crystals readers use crystals for decoration,

energizing, and harmonizing their personal environments.

As some of these suggestions came from people who preferred that their

names not be used, I am making all contributions anonymous.

I've divided the uses of crystals by room or other locations. As one

reader wrote: " The rule of using crystals in your home is really that

there are NO RULES. If you love them, then it is right for you. "

I'd like to create an ongoing series of articles about various uses

for crystals, so if this article inspires you to send in a suggestion,

please do. Suggestions can be sent to elfin

Please note: these aren't suggestions specifically related to feng

shui. We have an article on that subject at

http://www.rainbowcrystal.com/atext/fengshui.html

Some General Precautions

Crystals look beautiful in your windows, but some shouldn't be placed

in direct sunlight. These include amethyst, rose quartz, kunzite,

opal, turquoise, celestite, and fluorite. Have I missed any?

Other crystals shouldn't be placed in water, particularly soft stones

such as azurite, malachite, rough chrysocolla, and selenite. Some

people feel that calcite shouldn't be placed in water, but I've done

so with no negative results.

Again, have I missed any?

Keep very small crystals out of reach of pets and children. The same

goes for very breakable crystals (and they all are.)

Crystals by the computer

1. " For when I am waiting for the computer to dial in, or download.

Those few moments give me the opportunity to pick up and hold my

favourite crystals. "

2. " I place them in a seashell near my computer - they bring a sense

of peace to the work that I do there (personal work or on line

readings for friends). And they are pretty ;-) "

3. " On my desk around my computer are several clear quartz to help

dispel the electrical energy of the machine, very effective.

4. A Beyond the Rainbow Suggestion: I like to keep crystals around my

computer for overall balance of energy, especially clear quartz and

fluorite. Fluorite, being a mental stone, is particularly helpful in

terms of aligning with the mental energies of a computer.

Crystals by the telephone

1. " For those annoying calls where you are put on hold. "

2. A Beyond the Rainbow Suggestion: Keep crystals by the phone for

particular kinds of conversations. Have rose quartz on hand when you

need to be loving, rhodonite for patience, clear quartz when you want

to make a clear point (no pun intended) without being aggressive,

sodalite to prevent confusion about what someone else is saying.

Living Room Crystals

1. " In the living room I have a very large Amethyst geode, it is the

guardian of the house, calm very powerful protective energy. Next to

this is a piece of Australian rose quartz, very serene in this space.

Further along is a very beautiful statue of Horus (editorial note: an

Egyptian god), he has petrified wood, amber and amethyst around him,

again acts as a guardian of the house. "

2. " You can now find many crystals cut into marble-sized spheres.

These beauties are even more effective when placed in groups. I have a

simple pine corner shelf, which I have hung at 'eye-level'. This makes

a lovely display place for my crystal balls and marbles. The smaller

marble shapes I sit on curtain rings to keep them still. "

Crystals in the Bathroom

1. " In my bathroom I have a beautiful soap dish filled with shells,

pebbles and crystals, and another beautiful geode placed next to the

sink where I wash my hands. "

2. " I have crystals on my window sills; I usually use clear quartz

clusters for this purpose; they help to keep all the energy

circulating throughout the house. Keeping crystals in the bathroom is

actually a very good idea and the steam doesn't seem to hurt them at

all. It helps to keep them on the window sill in there too because

they keep things balanced and peaceful. "

Sleep and Dreamtime Crystals

1. " Next to my bed are Prehnite, garnets, chrysophase, rutilated

quartz and onyx rocks, these are stones I often carry and like to have

them close. Under the pillow I have Kyanite for clear, sweet dreams,

works for me. "

The following stories are from Dreamtime Crystals, an article at

http://www.rainbowcrystal.com/crystal/dream.html There are a number of

other ideas in this article.

2. I put my stone [angelite] under my pillow the last two nights and

really got a good night's sleep (because of my arthritis I haven't

slept a whole night in the last years). So you can imagine that I'm

already very fond of this stone!

3. The same night I received it [angelite], I had a very positive

dream about the coming of the new millennium. I'd never had such a

dream before, but on the other hand, I'd never slept with angelite

under my pillow before, either. I also had my Herkimer, amethyst and

moonstone keeping it company.

All Over the House

1. Bowls of tumbled stones are a fun way of relieving stress. I like

to be creative and make patterns with them on my dining room table!

2. Bowls of crystals by the front door- for guests to choose one on

their way home as a gift.

3. In my own room, I have my healing crystals, but also many who give

beauty, colour and energy to the space. I also have a rose quartz

fountain and the mix of water and crystals and sound improves the feel

of any room we place it. The cats like to have a drink of the charged

water, funny to watch.

4. A Beyond the Rainbow Suggestion: If you have a fountain-with or

without crystals (although we prefer those with them)-you can add

crystals (see above for crystals that dissolve in water), pocket

totems, and small statues, to create a special atmosphere.

Garden and Plant Crystals

Many readers agree that crystals planted in a garden and in or among

potted plants are good for our flowering friends. Here are some

specific examples.

1. A visitor wrote: " I would like to share my experience with

crystals. For the whole of April, May, June, July, and August I have

been putting rose quartz and clear quartz crystals in a jug and

filling with water and then leaving in the sunlight. I then will water

all my plants and gardens with this elixir and results have been

phenomenal. My plants were vigourous and produced more fruit than

others who had planted near mine. Of course I also talk to my garden

on a regular basis but I believe the crystals had the perfect

vibration of love and light to keep them happy.

2. Another reader likes to place a couple of crystals in a glass jar

among the plants (remembering to change the water regularly).

3. This reader writes: I like to keep some crystals in my garden too.

Some are nestled around the fountain and others around my pot plants.

It is lovely to sit in my special place in the garden, surrounded by

nature in all of its glory! Some people say the fairies take them away

- but I have been lucky, because my fairies only stop and look!

4. A Beyond the Rainbow Story: For ten years our plants had grown

happily in pots, with only a few occasions when squirrels had decided

the loose soil made an ideal nut bank. One spring, several mornings in

a row one of us would come out on the deck to find several potted

plants de-potted and dirt strewn everywhere.

We'd used a new kind of fertilizer this year, and I suspected it

contained some kind of squirrel perfume. Knowing that, however, didn't

solve our problem with the crazed rodents. I came up with the perfect

solution. We had pounds of off-sized tumbled and rough stones from our

retail store in Manhattan. I covered the surface of every pot with

different stones.

What began as a defensive maneuver ended up being a source of great

beauty and pleasure. A red begonia plant was surrounded with chunks of

rough chrysocolla. Orange calcite adorned a yellow gerbera. Assorted

tumbled stones surrounded geraniums of several colors, and a deep

purple petunia rose among calcites and rose quartz from Ireland (and

our personal collection).

Not everyone has that many crystals on hand but you can get a similar

effect by using more common stones and pebbles and accenting these

with a few tumbled stones. And if you'd like to get the full effect,

we do sell tumbled stones by the pound.

More ideas? I'll be glad to add them to my collection and into a new

article.
