Guest guest
Peggy- > Here are some photos of my Angel Wing Amethyst A beautiful spirit! Thanks for sharing it. These spirits are also Amethyst Flowers. When they're " full " they form a circle, with each crystal radiating from the center and forming what looks like an exquisite, delicate purple flower. Sometimes these spirits grow with a fine dusting of reddish Hematite and/or green coatings/inclusions/associations of Celadonite. I've heard the partial flowers called Amethyst Petals or Angel Wing Amethyst, as has been mentioned here. I'm not sure of the source of this either. Perhaps Peggy was the originator! Hard to say, but it's quite possible. To clarify, these spirits come from Irai, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which is the only place in the world they're found. There are some Amethyst Flowers from India, but they're much darker and have a somewhat different morphology. Another interesting note, Irai also offers us one of the most exquisite pseudomorphs I have ever seen - Amethyst pseudomorphs after Anhydrite! The delicate Anhydrite crystals, often called Angel Wings themselves, have been wholly replaced by soft purple Amethysts. Inside you'll often find caverns of tiny glistening Amethysts, which would more properly make these spirits epimorphs rather than pseudomorphs. No matter what you call them, they are absolutely sublime!!!
