When they say irradiated in this regard they are not taking about X- rays, but those actually given gama radiation from a nuclear reactor. For that reason all deep blue topazes should be avoided as the physical danger that they are. If you are sensitive, you will notice that such stones held in your hand have a gritty or grainy feeling. That is the radiation. Avoid any stones which that sensation.
