Need Help with a New stone!! Astrophyllite

Hi all,

 

I picked up some lovely stones at a gem show today...they are called

Astrophyllite (from

Russia)I saw one similar on ebay called a " Flash Russian Astrophyllite Garnet

Stone " ..has

anyone ever heard of this stone or worked with it? I can't seem to find any

information in my

books...any information would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi Diane.. In fact I sold one via my e-bay page to a lady for lung problems.

She loves it. This is the description I placed hope it will be of help. In

fact I didnt mention in the description about its capacity for helping lungs - I

found out about that later.

 

 

Astrophylite:

 

a variety of Chalcedony. Dark and mysterious,

I wanted to share a small excerpt from a larger listening I did on

Astrophyllite and shared with my list. I've pasted it below.

 

Two notes....

 

eBay is, unfortunately, very often a source of great misinformation -

generally from well-meaning people without a great deal of geological

knowledge of the stone spirits. I've seen a number of auctions

talking about the " Garnet " associations, but, in fact, the reddish

spirits associated with the Astrophyllite isn't Garnet at all. It's

Eudialyte.

 

This misinformation is one of those things that's repeated enough to

take on a life of its own (i.e., the fallacy of " Titanium Gas

Quartz " , the man-made glasses being sold as natural Obsidian and so

on and so on).

 

I've had these stone spirits tested personally, by an expert in the

field with extensive training in geology and geophysics and, more

specifically, with a background in minerological testing. I am

certain that the reddish inclusions are Eudialyte. The black matrix

is, as an aside, a very fine grained Aegirine.

 

Also Astrophyllites are not a member of the Chalcedony tribe. They

are, geologically speaking, a Silicate (specifically an Inosilicate)

with a chemistry Potassium Sodium Iron Manganese Titanium Silicate.

While Chalcedony is a Silicate (a Tectosilicate) Astrophyllite isn't

a variety of Chalcedony. As an aside, Chalcedonies are crypto- or

microcrystalline Quartz and don't form well defined crystals like

Astrophyllite and other stone spirits.

 

I hope the excerpt from my dances with these spirits is helpful to

you in some way. They're really magical beings with so much to offer!
