Rajmohan, Atma namaste. Thank you for the additional information. Medical Background: Thick callousing and fissuring or cracking of the skin of the heels is a result of excessive and abnormal friction on the heel while walking. Frequently this occurs in people who wear open-backed sandals or shoes, as these shoes allow more slippage around the heel while walking. The skin thickens as a result of the friction. Skin lotions can help with reducing the dryness associated with the condition. Avoiding open-backed shoes is also helpful. Risk Factors: Heel fissures can affect anyone, but risk factors include: - Living in a dry climate - Obesity - Consistently walking barefoot or wearing sandals or open-backed shoes - Inactive sweat glands - Thyroid problems - Lack of omega 3 in regular diet Like many foot conditions, heel fissures can become more dangerous if they go untreated and become deep or infected. This is especially dangerous for people with diabetes or compromised immune systems. Treatment and Prevention Moisturizing the feet regularly can prevent heel fissures. - Once they occur, after soaking you feet in warm water, you can use a pumice stone daily to gently decrease the thick and flaky layer of skin. - Avoid going barefoot or wearing open-backed shoes, sandals or shoes with thin soles. - Wearing thick socks or shoes with strong shock absorption can help to improve the condition. - Moisturizing the feet at least twice a day and - Wearing socks over moisturizer while sleeping can also help. If the problem persists, see your foot doctor. Sources: " Heel Fissures, Heel Callous " Kirk A. Koepsel, D.P.M. Editor, PodiatryNetwork.com; Aetrex Worldwide, Inc. Based on the medical background, the risk factors for cracked heels are certain ailments, grooming habits and dietary imbalance. Since this patient is not overweight, does not have ailments like diabetis, inactive sweat glands or thyroid problems, Pranic Healing is not the solution. The solution to cracked heels of this person would lie in enhancing his/her dietary balance to include more foods rich in omega 3 (certain fishes, flax seed oil, virgin olive oil, virgin coconut oil) and feet dressing habits as advised by the foot experts.
