Healing before pacemaker is installed

Please guide for treating a patient who's been advised

to have a pacemaker installed. His pulse rate is

usually in the 40-42 range, for over 15 years now he's

been advised to have a pacemaker installed but

has resisted this. He's recently had heart surgery

(valve installed).

 

Age : 74, generally robust health. Addicted to chewing

tobacco, had given it up but relapsed after 60 days.

Now, doctors are tellig him he

must get pacemaker installed. He has about 10 days

before this happens. Is there some treatment I can try

to help him with ? Advanced book has for irregular

heartbeats - will same protocol apply ?
