Dear Marilette

Namaste

Please guide me as to what would be the protocols

followed for the following cases:

1) What is macular oedema? What would be the Pranic

Healing protocol for it? The patient has been

diagnosed with macular oedema in the right eye. His

age is 72 years and he was a heavy smoker but has cut

down some time back. His current problems include

stress, inability to sleep well at night and partially

obstructed vision due to the oedema. He also has very

mild cataract in that eye. He has diabetes which is

under control with medication for a long time.

2) What would be the Pranic Healing protocol for

lowering cholesterol and triglycerides? The patient is

42 years old male. He also has stress and is unable to

have proper sleep. His lipid profile shows very high

levels of total cholesterol (291) Triglycerides (340)

LDL (182) VLDL (68). What do these terms mean and what

is their significance?

Thank you for your guidance

Dear Vidisha,

Namaste.

Thank you for your email.

I. Medical Background:

Macular Oedema - Diabetes-related eye complications

are common. If left untreated, they lead to the

deterioration of vision and, ultimately, blindness.

There are two eye diseases that result from diabetic

microvascular complications: diabetic retinopathy and

macular oedema.

Diabetic macular oedema

This is a common complication associated with diabetic

retinopathy. It corresponds to a swelling in the

macula, one of the areas of the retina. When some of

the small blood vessels in the retina become blocked,

the surrounding ones dilate to compensate for this.

The dilated vessels are generally leaky and fluid

builds up in the macula, which in turn causes the

macula to swell and cease to function. It is the most

common cause of visual impairment in patients with

non-proliferative retinopathy. Loss of vision can

occur suddenly and treatment is not as successful.

Approximately 14% of people with diabetes have

diabetic macular oedema and prevalence increases to 29

per cent for people with diabetes who use insulin for

more than 20 years.

Left untreated, 25% of people with diabetic macular

oedema will develop moderate vision loss within three

years.
