Guest guest
Just a quick guess, I'd look into the Kidneys/Jing/Marrow/Bone continuum on this one. Jing is about growth cycles and has a rather intimate relationship with the bones of the body. If no other Jing deficiency signs turn up, move on to the Liver's domination over the tendons and sinews, perhaps some sort of Liver Blood or Yin deficinecy going on there, in which case, I'd still return to the Kidneys as the Liver and Kidneys are very close, medically. -al. frederic wrote: > > Has anyone input about the treatment of Scoliosis of teenager ? this > seems to be a mechanical problem, and 90 % of the time, Western > Medicine cannot determine its cause and treats it through realignment > by wearing a brace, or surgery. > Any specific TCM approach ? > Thank you > Frederic Lecut. > > > > Post message: Chinese Traditional Medicine > Subscribe: Chinese Traditional Medicine- > Un: Chinese Traditional Medicine- > List owner: Chinese Traditional Medicine-owner > > Shortcut URL to this page: > /community/Chinese Traditional Medicine > >
Guest guest
Joyce, Since you are collecting more information, I'll add a recent case I treated. This is a high school boy who I treated for 8 sessions, once every week. The treatment was a combination of acupuncture and Tui Na. In this case, I used scalp acupuncture exclusively and asked him to do slow motion forward/backward bending and left/right twisting with the needles on. Besides the correction of the curvature, we also measured the distance between his hands and the floor: before the 1st treatment: 8 inches; after 4 treatments: 3/4 of his palms touch the floor flat. Mike L. Joyce <joyces wrote: Thank you for the responses regarding the scoliosis. I am interested in as much info as possible, since my interest is personal - my daughter also has a severe curve which we only discovered last summer. She has been going for Japanese acupuncture during most of the year, but the curve has remained constant. She is also involved in therapeutic yoga (3 times a week, Iyengar style). Joyce S. Guest guest
I had scoliosis when I was little. They check for it in gradeschool. In 6th grade they sent a notice home to my mom telling her to get me in to see a doctor for it. Since my mom was anti-doctors and didn't want me walking around with a metal rod in my back (what docs did at that time for scoliosis) she took me to a chiropractor. I'm not sure how common what he did is, but he gave me a list of exercises I had to do 3 times a day that built the muscles up on the weak side of my back. That pushed my spine straight. Hurt like crazy at first, but it worked! After just 1/2 year of doing these exercises I was 13" taller.... or I was finally standing up straight. One of the two. Tell your friend to call around and see if there are any chiropractors near her that specialize in scoliosis. Guest guest
I have scoliosis. I was diagnosed when I was about 10 years old. I am now 37 and I am just fine having it. It is not severe....mine is about an 18 degree curve. I did wear a brace for a while but it really didn't do anything. It depends on the severity of it. Scoliosis is pretty common now. Good Luck! Guest guest
I had scoliosis and had surgery when I was 19. This was back in '79. Prior to that I had a brace which I wore at bedtime. The curve did not correct much, hence surgery with a Harrington rod. It really depends on the severity of the curvature and age. Being diagnosed is the first step. It is possible your friend may only need to do special exercises. Guest guest
Have you had a bad experience with a Chiropractor or have heard a negative story of one? They are no different than anyone else - there are those who are highly skilled and those less competent. Keeping the body aligned is important and can greatly impact your health. I should visit one more often than I do. I've had both great and not so good experiences, but a good one is worth finding. I wouldn't be able to move my neck if it wasn't for my Chiropractor. Don't be afraid to interview them like you would anyone else you're turning your body over to. herbal remedies , Elizabeth <bluecatmj> wrote: > Yikes! Guest guest
Why are you anti chiropractor? I think some are just as bad as medical doctors in their greed and strange ways of thinking but some are on the right track. You just need to do a lil searching to find a good one. I'm very thankful my little guy has the nickname " mr perfect posture " No matter where he's sitting he's always sitting straight up, so far his spine is perfect. Sometimes it's comical, he'll be sitting on the floor with other little kids who are slouching and comfortable and there's Brock sitting straight up with his chest out. Guest guest
I would rather see an orthopedic specialist, a real Dr. I know for sure surgery wasn't an option, it wa a must.zengirl04 <zengirl04 wrote: Have you had a bad experience with a Chiropractor or have heard a negative story of one? Guest guest
There are many quack chiropractors out there- but a good chiropractor is worth their weight in gold! I have one that I trust my children with fully. She has worked MIRACLES in my family. My daughter was THE MOST COLICKY baby I had ever seen. People that thought that they had had high needs babies gave me pitiful glances because she was worse. I took her to my chiropractor who VERY GENTLY massaged her bone plates in her skull and palette in order to put them back into proper alignment and when I walked out I had the happiest baby on the block. People ALWAYS say to me, "Is she always this happy?" because she is always smiling and laughing and talking and charming now. My son fell off a couch backwards and knocked his head and misaligned his hips... prior to this, he had been taking steps but after that refused to take steps. I took him in and 2 days later he was walking and hardly ever falling down. I personally went to a good chiro as a child and unless I went every 6 months the ped would say I had scoliosis- I have a weakness on one side due to falling out of a tree. As long as I went every 6 months for a GENTLY adjustment, I had a straight back. Also, my chiropractor noticed that my cheekbone was still out of alignment from when I fell out of the tree- she gently adjusted this and I no longer have migraines. I went to her once a month during my pregnancy with my daughter and if I hadn't, I would have been bed ridden because of the relaxin issues I have. By keeping my joints aligned, I was able to strengthen the muscles to prevent the ligaments from literally giving out on me. Marisa Domestic Engineer and Mother of 2 Elijah Marin Yikes! Guest guest
Also, I have personally found 2 things to be true in determining good from bad #1 if they automatically want to take an xray just because you came in off the street, RUN- they don't know what they are doing (the exception is if you have been in some serious accidents there may be a reason for one) #2 if they auto schedule you over and over and over. A good chiro can accomplish the job with 2 maybe 3 visits spread over several weeks (like 2-5 weeks) not many visits each week etc Marisa Domestic Engineer and Mother of 2 Elijah Lilypie Baby Ticker <http://lilypie.com> Marin Lilypie Baby Ticker <http://lilypie.com> zengirl04 [zengirl04] Thursday, January 20, 2005 8:45 AM herbal remedies Re: Herbal Remedies - scoliosis Have you had a bad experience with a Chiropractor or have heard a negative story of one? Guest guest
"orthopedic specialist, a real Dr." A chiropractor IS a "real doctor". I trust my chiropractor with not only myself but all my children (starting as newborns) as well. Back when I took my oldest kids to the pediatrician's office, all he ever did was give us prescriptions for antibiotics and pressure me to formula feed and vaccinate. My kids were always sick or on the verge of being sick. Since we stopped going to an MD and started going to the chiropractor regularly, we have never been healthier! Our chiro has relieved ear infection symptoms, adjusted my kids' necks and backs after they've fallen off bikes and whatever, he's gotten rid of my migraines, seen me through my last 3 pregnancies.... And found (and fixed) 3 badly rotated segments in my son's neck from birth trauma (inflicted on him from my OB at the time.) I would Never go back to an MD (unless someone had a broken bone.) Jan G. Guest guest
Hi Angel, I just wanted to reassure you and your friend that it is possible to correct the curvature of the spine caused by Scoliosis without the use of drugs and painful surgery. I'm living proof! In order to accomplish results, your friend must take responsiblity for his/her health and make a serious commitment to a healthy diet and specific exercises based on his/her subluxation. I recommend that your friend finds a naturopath that they trust, along with a chiropractor and massage therapist. They should all work together to form a holistic health plan for your friend. I must stress, it is up to your friend to take RESPONSIBLITY for the health of his/her body and make the decision to choose the natural path. It is a commitment, but well worth it in the long run. I'm walking the walk Warm regards, Lori herbal remedies , angel <godblessedmewithanangel> wrote: > > > Hey..i am not sure if i am spelling this correctly but my friend was just diagnosed with scoliosis and i have never heard anything about this as far as in what helps with this so i figred id see if any of you know or heard of anything that helps with this..it would greatly be appreciated..thank you.. > > > > > Read only the mail you want - Mail SpamGuard. Guest guest
That is not necessarily so. If someone has a complaint and depending upon what it is, how chronic, how severe the pain is, etc., then it is a good idea if the Chiropractor is not working " blind " . They may know what they are doing by touch, but they can't alwyas know everything - such as in a deteriorating disc. So you have to use your own judgement and knowledge about your body to assist you there. They should however ask for any existing x-rays and keep them to an absolute minimum. As you say, most problems may be able to be adjusted within 2-3 sessions. But, depending upon the body's general condition, how long the spine (or whatever) has been out of adjustment, it may require several weeks of adjustment before it will begin to " stay " where it is adjusted to. I agree that regular appointments that seem never ending are most likely a sign that doctor is trying to garner a steady income. Also many Chiropractors are in the business of supplements and nutrition. This can be okay if you are in a medical crisis and are generally clueless about health issues. But just be careful you don't get dependent on this because some of them rely heavily on the supplments and forget about the value of food and natural herbs. " Some " won't want you finding this website in other words. herbal remedies , " Brady and Marisa " <corless@s...> wrote: > > Also, I have personally found 2 things to be true in determining good from > bad > #1 if they automatically want to take an xray just because you came in off > the street, RUN- they don't know what they are doing (the exception is if > you have been in some serious accidents there may be a reason for one) > #2 if they auto schedule you over and over and over. Guest guest
Angel, how old is your friend? You do need to know if her bones have closed yet. Again, I must stress if the curvature is severe, I don't see how in the world it can be corrected solely with exercise and diet.Lori <tootstl wrote: Hi Angel,I just wanted to reassure you and your friend that it is possible to correct the curvature of the spine caused by Scoliosis without the use of drugs and painful surgery. Guest guest
Well, I guarantee I would have found another Pedi, too. Our Pedi is anti-vax, anti-circ, and anti-antibiotics! It's a matter of "shopping" around for what is best for your kids. ;)Jan Gonzalez <jgonz wrote: "orthopedic specialist, a real Dr." A chiropractor IS a "real doctor".
