vaginal yeast infection- birth control pills

Thank you for your email.

 

Birth control pills may cause normal changes in the

vagina leading to infection.

 

This is caused by a progesterone-domination due to the

birth control pill. Birth control chemicals Progestin

causes a high level of progesterone, high enough to

shut down the brain-ovarian axis.

 

The liver can not produce enough enzymes to convert

the mega dose of progesterone (produced by the birth

control chemical progestin) into 17 alpha-Hydroxy

Progesterone and then androstenedione. A high level of

progesterone shuts down the brain-ovarian axis--that

is how birth control pills work.

 

Progestin by itself may cause yeast infection, heavy

vaginal discharge, and pain.

Birth control pills cause normal changes in the

vagina. One of such changes is the increase in

vaginal discharge which provides a more conducive

environment for the growth of natural flora

(fungus)present in the vaginal canal. This can cause

yeast infection if the immune system is already

comproised or weak. Internal and external personal

hygene must be carefully practiced and acidity-alkali

balance maintained.
