Dear master Fe,

 

Is there any treatment for in growing toenail?

 

My son is suffering from this problem for the last one month on the right

foot big toe. The nail grows inside and cuts the flush giving pain and

swelling. Doctor says surgical correction ( i.e cut the nail that cuts into

the flesh) is the only way.

 

I will be thankful to you for suggesting line of treatment.

Please follow the instruction of Master Fe when she answers.

Nevertheless, I would like to tell you my experience: since I was 20, I started

to suffer the same problem of your son. I was recommended surgery cutting the

nail deep up to the base where it grows.

I never did it.

In spite, I used to go to a specialized podologist (people that treat feet,

calluses, nails) to get my nail cut properly every 15 days, and avoid pain, and

changed the habit wearing loosing shoes.

Now I am 52, and after cutting and cutting ever since, my nail took its proper

way, and though it press the flesh a bit, creating a very small callous, it is

nothing of importance and I treat it myself by cutting and removing the small

callosity.
