I'm wondering if any of you have heard of this? I've never seen anything like it before and wonder about the accuracy. Celia and Cyndi, i know you've both told me to include fruits in meals to get in the proper amount per day and I have used fruit as a side item (not regularly, I confess..). What do you all think? I honestly don't even know where to go to try to confirm or debunk this.... Terri

EATING FRUIT... It's long but very informative We all think eating fruits means

just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not

as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat. What is the correct way of eating

fruits? IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER

YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. If you eat fruit like that, it

will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a

great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities. FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of

bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight

through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing

so. In the meantime the whole meal

rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into

contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire

mass of food begins to spoil.... So please eat your fruits on an empty

stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining -

every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats

up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually

all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The

fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you

will bloat! Graying hair, balding,

nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT

happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach. There is no such thing as some

fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become

alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on

this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits,

you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and

normal weight. When you need to drink fruit juice

- drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even

drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you

don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys

all the vitamins. But eating a whole fruit is better

than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful

by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before

swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body.

Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will

be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look! KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good

source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C

content is twice that of an orange. APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor

away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants

& flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping

to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke. STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries

have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect

the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals. ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep

colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as

well as lessens the risk of colon cancer. WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher..

Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of

glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key

source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found

in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium. GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They

are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also

rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in

carotene; this is good for your eyes. Drinking Cold water after a meal =

Terri, I can only speak for myself but it sounds like a bunch of crap to me. I agree that you should eat real fruit--not juice--but the rest is nonsense. I eat fruit in limited quantities because I am a type 2 diabetic and I always include it with a high fiber meal (such as a salad), not alone, so as to slow down my body's absorption of fructose. For me it's not 'safe' to eat fruit alone though it would probably be just fine for anyone who does not have blood sugar issues. I'm not aware that WAP (or any other group values that I to) advocates eating fruit alone for the below reasons, but then I haven't finished my books on WAP and NT. Cyndi, do YOU know how WAP feels about this???--C-- --- On Fri, 3/26/10, Terri McLaughlin <tressa1220 wrote:Terri McLaughlin <tressa1220[RFSL] Fwd: Eating Fruit"realfoodsimplelife " <realfoodsimplelife >Friday, March 26, 2010, 7:02 PM

Hi Terri and all...The Fit for Life program is all about this...it's called Food Combining. I have done the program before and did notice quite a difference when eating fruit only on an empty stomach. My gas/flatulence issues decreased so dramatically that I choose to still be relatively careful how I eat my fruit though I am not following the program religiously at the moment. Here is some info about it:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fit_for_LifeIf you were to even try eating fruit alone in the a.m. for a week, you might notice you feel better too! Anyway, just one more method of eating and nutrition to explore.Best,Lee Anne--- On Fri, 3/26/10, Terri McLaughlin <tressa1220 wrote:Terri McLaughlin <tressa1220[RFSL] Fwd: Eating Fruit"realfoodsimplelife " <realfoodsimplelife >Friday, March 26, 2010, 6:02 PM

Did you check Snopes? I've actually seen this before on another group, and I questioned it then. Now even if this was all good information or true information, there is nothing here to back it up. Like for instance......who is Dr. Herbert Shelton? No credentials listed, who he works for, links, nothing. If he did research on this matter, then where is the information? Where is the study? What kind of study was it? Where did he find his information? And what did he find? No mention of organic fruits, and the difference between organic and conventionally grown stuff. There is just nothing here. The e-mail just smells of a phony e-mail floating around the web. Kelly--- On Fri, 3/26/10, Terri McLaughlin <tressa1220

My hubby also limits his intake of fruit because of type 2 diabetes. Hubby would also never eat it alone.....almost never. He typically tries to get a protein into every meal which works really well for his body. Actually mine too. Although he will eat an apple on his way home from work if he is stuck in traffic and getting shaky. Understood, Kelly. Even though it's rare, I too have occasionally eaten an orange or 1/2 banana when stuck in traffic or out somewhere and find myself a little bit shaky. I try to stick to strawberries, raspberries and blueberries when I eat fruit because their glycemic load is lower. The occasional small apple paired with brie or cheddar cheese is a special treat for me! I learned from Cyndi years ago to carry hard-boiled eggs with me for a quick snack on the go, and they seem to keep my BS pretty stable. I used to not care for them very much but now I eat them almost daily, lol! You know, it really is that simple isn't it? Real food in it's simplest form also works for our household. I'm not some great cook. I cook very simply with the best quality of food that we can afford in any given week. I've lost 28 lbs. in the last 10 months, and people are shocked when they find out how much fat I'm still eating......yet my cholesterol is down 40 points. I've just cut out as much processed food and sugar as possible, eat as closely as I can to the WAP way as possible and go to the gym a few times a week, work in my garden and it all works. Hubby and I both need to lose more weight, but we are on the right path. We lead a much different and much healthier lifestyle than we did a few years ago.Kelly--- On Fri, 3/26/10, Celia Browne <lady_celia

I've heard about food combining for a long time. I think it's more popular in countries like France. I remember many years ago, my mother gave me a cookbook by Suzanne Somers, and she is big on food combining. She mentioned in the book being told while on holiday in France not to eat cherries after a big meal, that fruit should always be taken on an empty stomach.

Personally, I don't hold much faith in food combining. I think it's another gimmick that probably works for some people, only because they are being more mindful of what they are eating and watching their caloric intake a lot more carefully. It goes back to mindful eating. And maybe some people's personal metabolism fits in line with food combining, so they are successful with it. Even Suzanne Somers recommends a diet much higher in protein and lower in carbs, as a weight loss plan, so what does that tell you?

Eating the whole fruit is DEFINITELY better than drinking the juice, I do agree with that.

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

This can be attributed to other causes such as vitamin and mineral deficiencies-especially magnesium and Iodine-and has nothing to do with eating fruit on an empty stomach.

WAP says to always eat whole fruit with a meal containing some protein and fats. This enables the fruit to be digested slowly and enter the bloodstreamat a moderate rate over a matter of hours instead of minutes.

I agree with Cee, its a bunch of crap. EVERYONE has blood sugar issues, and eating sugars on an empty stomach and getting those sugar highs and lows over a long period of time is what causes insulin resistance.

You have heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

That's what its all about. Refining food IN ANY FORM destroys its vital vitamin mineral and enzyme components. You don't HAVE to be a great cook if food is prepared simply and with minimal processing.

Congrats on your great accomplishment Kelly!

We lead a much different and much healthier lifestyle than we did a few years ago.

Real food in it's most simple form works for me. <smiles>

Cyndi, do YOU know how WAP feels about this???

EATING FRUIT...

It's long but very informative

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Regarding the “need†to eat fruit separately:  Bunk. This comes

from those who hold to the idea of Proper Food Combining—that foods have to

been eating in a particular order or combination to be beneficial and that to

do otherwise is to cause food to turn toxic in the body. It just isn’t true.

While it is true that some foods take longer to digest than others (animal

proteins for example) and that different enzymes are needed for different food categories,

none of that matters an iota regarding digestion.  Eat your fruit first, middle:

JUST EAT YOUR FRUIT. J

My response: While it is a common idea amongst

diabetics (thanks to the ADAs –American Diabetics Assn & American Dietetics

Assn) that fruit should be limited to control their serum glucose levels,

studies have actually shown that diets high in complex carbs, fresh (whole)

fruits, and vegetables and low in protein and fat stabilize diabetics to the

point of reducing or eliminating the need for insulin or meds. But, those

studies also showed that even after coming off insulin during the study

period, diabetics ran straight back to their former diets and back onto

insulin because they did not like to eat the large amount of produce required

and wanted their animal protein and fat back. Thus, the diet is rarely

recommended….

Before I got pregnant, I followed the " Somersize " way of food combining, to

great benefit to my health and weight: I saw a great improvement in my

digestion, my sickness rate plummeted, and I dropped about 50 lbs despite eating

plenty of fat.

Fruit was either eaten on an empty stomach, or with whole grains (but no fats or

proteins). There was no portion control, no calorie counting, etc. You just ate

certain food groups with other food groups, in specific combinations:

1. Protein, veggies, & fats together

2. Complex carbs & veggies together

3. Fruit alone, or with complex carbs on a limited basis.

4. No refined sugars, flours, or simple carbs like potatoes, white rice, corn,

peas.

5. No " mixed " foods, like nuts or olives, that combined fats or proteins with

complex carbs.

It was not a healthy diet in terms of WAPF, however--which I had never heard of

at the time. And it was antithetical to Sally Fallon's recommendation to eat

protein with complex carbs. But it worked for me.

I left that way of eating, however, when I got pregnant and all my food

aversions and nausea took over.

I've read that the body absorbs more of the fruit when eaten by itself (raw food

books). Generally, I try to eat fruit by itself or with veggies so its able to

work its way through my system quickly. When I don't it sticks around in my

intestines and then I get gas because the bacteria have more time to work on it.

Just my 2cents.
