Anyone have an ingrown toenail remedy?

Brian gets ingrown toenails every time he wears his sneakers - we can't have

that with a 5k coming up! Any ideas on how to get rid of them quickly? And how

to prevent them?

The dr offered to cut it out for him, but said it would most likely come back

unless the " root " is cut out. We were told that most insurances won't let the dr

cut to the " root " until its been cut back 3 times.

The walk is in 2 months, i don't have that kind of time!! LOL

THANKS!!!

Terri

My husband and I are walking for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network on May

22nd in memory of his dad, Ted McLaughlin who passed away last July.

I had one cut out, and it grew back. The doctor then cut it out a 2nd time and used acid to kill that part of the nail so it won't grow back. Not fun, but I feel so much better now! (I went down hill skiing 3 weeks after having it done)

If you cut a V shape in the nail (at the top) then when the nail grows it helps to relieve some of the pressure on the sides so that it's less likely to get imbedded in the skin. Hope this helps.

Just saw on Dr. Oz this week that you should put a small amount of cotton under the nail, use nail stick to push it under the top of the nail, this holds the nail out away from the skin, keep it this way for just a few days and by then he said the nail should have grown enough to not cause an ingrown nail --- On Sat, 3/20/10, H S <hstm12 wrote:

Soak it in Epson salts water, several times a day if you can. If it is real red (infection!) you can make a gritty paste of the epsom salt and wrap your toe with a bandaid to hold it on. Tea tree oil is also an antiseptic and may help, even though my son was allergic to it. The soak will really help. I think soaking it in witch hazel helps too.
