Greetings!

 

This morning I launched another part of my new website--a brand new section that didn't exist before: Toxics & Health. I started this section to gather together information on all the different ways toxic chemicals can affect health and offer first steps to take to eliminate chemicals specific to that particular health problem. I've started with articles on three health effects: cancer, colds and flu, and fat, and will be adding more on a regular basis. Please share these articles with people you know who have these health problems. Had more questions and comments this week on the new Green Living Q & A blog site. And remember you can now review your favorite books in Debra's Bookstore so take a look and leave some comments. I'm working on the new MCS Recovery site and the new Debra's List, so those will be coming up soon as well. Debra :-)

Nano Tex Dear Debra - I have been reading a lot about Nano Tex. It is used on almost everything: clothing, furniture, luggage, etc., to repel stains and water. It is actually built into the fabric, not sprayed on. It has been approved by the EPA. Do you know anything about this?

Is internet through home power outlets safer than WiFi? We've been wanting to get rid of the WiFi for some time, as it has given me some physical problems, but we aren't willing to be offline. One alternative seems to be powerline internet, which would run the signal through our household wiring so that we could plug our computers into it from any room. However, I'm wondering whether this produced "dirty electricity" and might be just as dangerous to our health as the WiFi is.

Anyone know where to find answers on that?

Odor remaining after carpet removal My wife and I recently bought a cheap area rug from Target. We learned you get what you pay for!!

For about two weeks, there was a rubbery odor that I now know (after doing a lot of reading on your website) was probably the off- gassing from the backing of the carpet. My son had trouble sleeping and lots of congestion.

We got rid of the carpet a few days ago, but now the problem is that the smell has actually gotten worse. It's like the chemical has seeped into the 50 year old wooden floor. I've scrubbed it with Murphy's Oil Soap and another hardwood floor cleaner, left the windows open, and nothing seems to help.

Any ideas about how to get rid of the smell? It is actually overpowering - especially at night when the heat kicks on. We are new to learning all about the toxic chemicals all around us in our house - but becoming quick converts! Greg in CT
