Guest guest
I'm a big fan of Dr Oz. Anyways, just listened to his recommendations about face creams and he suggested something unscented that contains vit A, vit C, and ALA (I already supplement with ALA). But I cannot find ANYTHING on the market that contains all three or even just two that is unscented or doesn't have parabens or other junk mixed in. Anyone else found anything? I've been using just plain old coconut oil but when I heard the combination of above will help with redness (and reducing wrinkles wouldn't be bad too but not my major concern). Help! Thanks, Barb
Guest guest
Have you tried looking in the health food store? Check out EWG's website it maybe helpful. For redness if your skin is sensitive stay away from that Euc???? stuff. I had a horrible reaction. I wear either a moisterizer or mineral powder with sunscreen if I'm out during the day year round. That has helped the redness more than anything. <> >frstyrs08 [FirstYrs08] >2/5/2010 1:48:14 PM > >Re: [RFSL] face cream? > > >I'm a big fan of Dr Oz. Guest guest
Lots of concerns have been brought up concerning mineral powder, because over a period of 10 or 20 years the powder could get in your lungs and cause problems. I wore the stuff for years, and won't wear it anymore. In fact Dr. Oz just had something about mineral powder possible causing lung damage on his show yesterday. I have rosacea so I struggle with redness too.Kelly--- On Fri, 2/5/10, Lara Brown <larabrown wrote:Lara Brown <larabrownRe: [RFSL] face cream? Guest guest
I also use coconut oil.....Tropical Traditions. I have gone to using all edible stuff, because my skin is so sensitive and I just don't want all the chemicals. As you have seen on Dr. Oz the FDA does not regulate the cosmetics industry......they can put whatever they want in women's beauty products. Apple cider vinegar mixed with green tea is my toner, coconut oil my moisturizer, honey, sugar, olive oil and green tea mixed as an exfoliant. I don't have actual recipes. I just mix till I get the right consistency. Oat Meal makes a nice mask too. If you have the urge to buy I would definitely hit a health food store, verses anywhere else. I have friends that swear by Burt's Bees, but I only use their hand lotion so no first hand experience about their face products or ingriedients.Kelly--- On Fri, 2/5/10, frstyrs08 <FirstYrs08 wrote:frstyrs08 <FirstYrs08[RFSL] face cream? Guest guest
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Oz. In some ways he can be very progressive, but in other ways he still offers mainstream advice that annoys me. I do have an A eye cream, but it has junk mixed into it. I have opened vitamin E capsules and used that oil on my skin before when it gets really dry. I have to be really careful what I put on my skin. Usually what I use is some Rose Water I got at Whole Foods. It is edible, but I found it in the cosmetic aisle, so I just spray that (it comes in a spray pump bottle) on my face every morning and evening. I am sure there isn't a whole lot of rose oil in it, but it's enough to lightly moisturize my face. I can't use coconut oil on my face, it makes my skin break out, but I do use coconut oil on my legs when they get dry. Have you looked at some place like a health food store or Whole Foods? I tend to use very little on my skin, but I bet you could find something there. I wonder if you could use foods like avocados or strawberries mashed up to use as a face mask that would add vitamins to your face. I mean, they are good for your skin, but I bet the vitamins would be absorbed by the skin too. There are a ton of foods you can use as a skin mask. I don't do it often enough... I use some apple cider vinegar mixed with water as a toner, and I use Dr. Bronners unscented soap as a cleanser. I think that's about all I do. Guest guest
Occasionally I mix baking soda with a little water into a paste and use that as an exfoliant. I've made masks out of honey, yogurt, kefir, oatmeal etc (in different combinations.) Food masks are fun lol. I can't use Burts Bees products. They are not good for sensitive skin. Guest guest
I agree - there have been a couple of times when I wondered about comments from Dr Oz that were " mainstream " or when he doesn't fully answer a question. But considering all the non-mainstream information he's provided (I record it every day), I am so happy I could cry! (yep, that emotional). Before his show, certain family and friends would say things like, " organic is the same as conventional - its all just a marketing scam " or roll there eyes every time I talked about raw fruits & veggies. But now that Dr Oz has talked about it, they are all on board. Its so frustrating - why can't they make something safe that has the vit A in it!!! Grrrr. Anyways, I'm like you, until I can find it, I use coconut oil, avacado oil, organic butter, etc... I've not heard of rose oil so I'm going to look for it tomorrow. Thanks all - as always, love this group!!!! , cyndikrall wrote: > > > I have mixed feelings about Dr. Oz. Guest guest
Weleda a very clean brand makes a rose oil. Cyndi mentioned rosewater which I believe is just rose scented water. You could add gylcerine to it. I used to spray my closes with it easy smooth them or put them in the dryer to get rid of wrinkles. I also hang them in the bathroom to steam out. Simple. <> >frstyrs08 [FirstYrs08] >2/7/2010 2:10:13 AM > >Re: [RFSL] face cream? > > >I agree - there have been a couple of times when I wondered about comments from >Dr Oz that were "mainstream" or when he doesn't fully answer a question. Guest guest
Thought you'd get a chuckle from this. I researched for the richest sources of vit A & chose carrots bc they were towards the top of the list & inexpensive. So I blended up avacado, carrots, pomagranite juice & milk - put it on my face & let it dry (thinking I'd let it dry and then be able to sleep with it on my face). Well, I scared the heck out of my husband. He told me I couldn't wear it to bed because when I get up to care for my kids in the middle of the night, I'll scare the heck out of them! (the concoction formed into dark red chunky lines across my face so my husband said I looked like I was in a " slasher " movie - YIKES)....... , " CyndiK " <cyndikrall wrote: > > I think the Vitamin A capsules in the health food store are just fish oil. Guest guest
ROTFL! That's a good one! I wouldn't think it would get dry enough to stay on your skin all night. I've used oatmeal/fefir masks before that harden enough to possibly stay on all night, but I haven't tried it. How did you like the results? Did it make your skin feel great? I saw a skin care line at Walgreens called Yes to Carrots or something like that, and also one called Yes To Cucumbers. I think they were organic, but i didn't look at them too closely. Cyndi frstyrs08 <FirstYrs08 Wed, Feb 10, 2010 10:54 am Re: [RFSL] face cream? Thought you'd get a chuckle from this. I researched for the richest sources of vit A & chose carrots bc they were towards the top of the list & inexpensive. So I blended up avacado, carrots, pomagranite juice & milk - put it on my face & let it dry (thinking I'd let it dry and then be able to sleep with it on my face). Well, I scared the heck out of my husband. He told me I couldn't wear it to bed because when I get up to care for my kids in the middle of the night, I'll scare the heck out of them! (the concoction formed into dark red chunky lines across my face so my husband said I looked like I was in a "slasher" movie - YIKES)....... , "CyndiK" <cyndikrall wrote: > > I think the Vitamin A capsules in the health food store are just fish oil. Anyways, I'm like you, until I can find it, I use coconut oil, avacado oil, organic butter, etc... I've not heard of rose oil so I'm going to look for it tomorrow. > > > > Thanks all - as always, love this group!!!! > > > > , cyndikrall@ wrote: > > > > > > > > > I have mixed feelings about Dr. Guest guest
Suprisingly, it did get dry after about 15 minutes! For the short time I used it, I seemed to be getting good results (it could be I was biased bc I liked what I was using though too). And its funny that you recommended the Yes to Carrots brand because I saw it the same day I stopped and decided to give it a try. It has vit a and vit c but not the aha. It makes my skin feel great but I don't seem to be getting the same results as I did with my " mixture. " , cyndikrall wrote: > > > ROTFL! That's a good one! Guest guest
I think you could still use your creation too! Just maybe not overnight, lol. ;-) Cyndi frstyrs08 <FirstYrs08 Sun, Feb 21, 2010 5:00 pm Re: [RFSL] face cream? Suprisingly, it did get dry after about 15 minutes!
