GRANOLA

Hall & Oats

Friends might call you "crunchy," but these granolas taste great and are great for the planet.

Are you and your private eyes settling for not-so-sustainable granola? Can't go for that (no can do). Try our fave granola from eco-responsible producers - they taste way better than the usual suspects. Yes, can do.

A real hit for your taste buds. These granolas contain delicious ingredients such as dried cranberries and cocoa (plus you can add whatever you like).

Less Maneater, more healthy eater. Granola's a good source of dietary fiber and its nuts and fruit contain protein and antioxidants, plus our picks are made without hydrogenated vegetable oils and have zero trans fat.

Not getting Out of Touch with the planet. All the companies here give back to the environment by recycling at their HQs, donating to eco-charities, and/or giving employees paid time off to volunteer.

This was one of those tips we swore we'd never do - but though it may smack of Berks and yurts, these picks are lip-smackin'.

Laughing Giraffe Granola - if you're into nutty, go for this raw option; the Walnut Pecan Cherry Ginger version's tops ($9/8 ounces).

GrandyOats Granola - organic flavors like Mainely Maple and Chocolate Peanut Crisp, plus a great low-fat option called Berries Jubilee; also offers bulk ordering online ($5/10-13 ounces).

Bear Naked Grain-ola Bars - new this month from Bear Naked: chewy granola in flavors like Chocolaty Cherry ($21/12 bars).

Kaia Foods Buckwheat Granola - snack-y clusters of mostly raw granola goodness in Cocoa Bliss, Dates and Spices, and Raisin Cinnamon ($7/12 ounces).

Check the blog for our DIY recipe.

The inventor of the granola bar, Stanley Mason, also invented the squeezable ketchup bottle, dental floss dispensers, heated pizza boxes, and the disposable diaper.
