you can do an internet search and find a variety of

helpfull hints...baking soda,jewelweed,etc..

Good luck! Tis seems to be one of those hit or miss

things...somethings work for some people and not for

others' Have you tried benadryl and a cortozone

ointment? Maybe a bath with tea tree oil drops in it?

have heard that if you eat new poison ivy leaves at the begining of

spring/summer it will make you immune. I was wondering if anyone had

anymore details on this. Do you chew them & spit them out, or swallow

the rash is internal.

to heal the rash, i rinse with diluted clorox, rub in baking soda or

corn starch to dry it if seaping fluid, and cover with the jelly side

just keep doing this until it has cleared up. i like the baking soda

as it helps the itching when rubbed on.

Hi there...Don't know of anything to put on before exposure . I would

certainly beef up your immune system with Total Nutrition , Total Tonic and

Echinacea . After exposure the hebs to use for Poison Ivy are : lobelia ,

sassafras , slippery elm and virginia snake root . I am sure there are

others . In the plant world there are never just a few that have the same

therapeutic properties , there are usually a hundred !

Hope that this helps....Mary O

I'm interested in this as well. I am hyper allergic to it, and we are going camping in August for a week.

i have a great remedy for poison ivy. before i give you the alternative answer

you are seeking, i am going to provide information regarding the source and

compound of the product i recommend.

there is a product called Himalayan Salt. it is rock crystals mined from the

himalayan mountains and has the crystaline formulation closest to what our body

needs. when the rocks soak in mineral water (fiji water is best as it comes

from the same area) it produces a " sole " . i take a teaspoon of sole each

morning followed by 8 oz of water. it provides the crystaline formation

necessary for balancing your vibration with the universe.

answer to your question. this company also makes a mud like skin mask that is

made with the earth of the mountains and the salt. apply a thin paste to the

affected area and it will stop the itching, and the irritation to the skin

should be gone in less than two days. it will dry, flake and itch for a few

minutes, but this is simply the product pulling the poisons and toxins from your

skin. i did this to my niece and then shared a twin bed with her. i am highly

allergic to poison ivy and never had any problems.

When I used to occasionally get a poison ivy rash (I guess I developed

resistance to it again), I would dampen the rash with water, then

scrub salt on it until it completely satisfied the itch, maybe started

to burn slightly. Left it on, let it dry, and that was pretty much that.

Urushiol oil is the irritant in Poison Ivy, Oak and Sumac. Understanding

that it is an oil, is a key to dealing with it.

First, water is only going to move it around. Washing with regular hand/body

soap provides limited benefit because their chelating agents are too mild.

Instead use dishwashing liquid which is specifically designed to soak up a

lot of oil. Normally dishwashing liquid is not a good hand soap because it

removes too much oil and over-dries your skin.in this case, go for it!

On the surface of your skin, salt is also very effective because again it

binds nicely with oil and will draw it out. Because you're not eating it,

ANY salt will do. There are some really cool pink salts that contain great

mineral compositions. I'm talking about simple chemistry here and you're not

eating the salt, so yes, even Morton's Kosher salt is fine for this kind of

process.

If you're dealing with the rash at this point, the salt scrub can be

soothing and again it soaks up the oil, which is now welling up from your

pores so you get the double benefit using it.

It should be of little surprise that annoying molecules created by nature,

have a balancing counter part in nature as well. Jewel Weed is said to be

helpful for neutralizing Urushiol oil, assuming what you buy contains enough

potency to be effective.

There is a plant that grows near the poison ivy on our property and I know my

mother in law told me that plant helps stop the itching. I'll have to find out

what it is called and if it is the flower or the leaves with the anti-itch

properties.

Rhus toxicodendron (hope I spelled that right!) homeopathic remedy

will work best in the first stages but it's never to late to try it,

even now.

Buttermilk is my favorite for itching. Nothing else ever worked for

me and I am highly allergic to poison ivy and have tried a LOT of

different remedies! Reapply as necessary. Can't hurt and benefits

the skin too.

Lisa ! This is pretty serious amatter to be tackled over the internet.Get

immediate hospitalization help and medical attention lest it should lead to

dermalogical complications. The first and foremost precaution is plenty of fruit

juice and wholesome fibrous fruits to get rid of the poison.Secondly external

and internal medication. Please do not lose valuable time over this.Wish you

well soon.

I would take a hand full of epsom salt and wet it and then rub on my skin. That

will dry it out and stop the itch in a pinch

I have it really bad too (mostly on my left arm)!

I wound up having to go to the doctor and he gave me a series of steroid

pills (I know, ick), to help my body kick it out.

To help with the itch I'm taking an oral allergy medicine. I'm also watching

the rash with warm water and soap every couple hours. Then dabbing it with

witch hazel to help the itch. After that, I've been putting on caldryl and

the clear gel stuff from Benadryl that's incredible!

If you find something else that helps, please share!

Calamine Lotion to relieve the itching.Benadryl is

also known to help with reaction. Above all do not

scratch that will make it spread. I have heard that

Chamomile and Lavender have been known to help soothe.

Make sure you have washed everything that came in

contact with the poison ivy, i.e. clothing, bedding,

pets, as it will stay on clothing etc and reinfect on

future contact.

Here's what I have used for poison ivy with great success!!!!

http://www.zanfel.com/

Last year I got it real bad on my face etc...my eyes swollen shut etc.... went

to doc but what he gave me wasnt doing much either so I bought this stuff and

applied it in the shower and was amazed with the results, almost immediately the

burning itch was gone, within just a couple hours swelling had gone down. I

ended up applying 2 more times later and that was it. I now keep it on hand at

all times!!!! Worked for me!

I've used Jewelweed for poison ivy - both a spray & a soap. I had VERY

bad poison ivy one year and did a desperate search on the internet for

natural remedies, and Jewelweed came up.

It definitely helped me - calmed the itching and dried the rash.

(Interestingly enough, I also read that often Jewelweed will grow very

close to where there's poison ivy. Often, Nature provides the remedy

right next to the problem!)

Any search engine will bring up info and sites for Jewelweed remedies.

Hope you feel better soon!

You want to use hot water if possible. A soap that

will help to break down oils will also help.
