Guest guest
Jewell weed is supposed to be helpful. You mayfind some growing near the pi. You can wet it mash it up. Look on line for picture advice. You can also buy lotions from it at health food stores (check first). <> >rosariacina [rosariacina] >5/30/2009 2:29:14 PM > >Re: [RFSL] Question about poison ivy > > > > >Hi evedry one ,I am Sara from Brooklyn,ny >My grandson cought poison ivy,we think,on the left arm and now spreading to the >face. >Do you know what to apply for poison ivy? >Thank you > > > >Messages in this topic (1) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic >Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls | Calendar >The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary >may speak. >— Hans Hofmann > > >Change settings via the Web ( ID required) >Change settings via email: Switch delivery to Daily Digest | Switch format to >Traditional >Visit Your Group | Terms of Use | Un Recent Activity > 3New Members >Visit Your Group >Give Back > >=== message truncated === http://toolbar.Care2.com Make your computer carbon-neutral (free).http://www.Care2.com Green Living, Human Rights and more - 8 million members! Guest guest
Where at you at in CA Sage?Cyndi In a message dated 5/30/2009 8:41:23 P.M. Put the drops in water and sip throughout the day for both prevention and relief. I also spread some of the water/drops mixture on the outbreak to soothe itching and burning, and to help heal faster. If I take the drops before exposure, there's no outbreak; sometimes I forget that my cats get it on their fur and then spread the oils to my skin. :(I also have an herbal tincture spray called Ivy Itch ReLeaf, by Herbs, Etc., containing Jewelweed and other soothing herbs (Grindelia flower, Plantain Leaf, Licorice Root, and Echinacea Root). It helps relieve the itching and burning of an outbreak.Poison Ivy will not spread on the body after the oils have been washed off. It seems to spread, because the person has touched another area without having removed all the oils from the exposed site, and the lighter amount of oil on the skin from this secondary contact takes longer to break out. (An exception is the person who gets it systemically -- my nephew has been hospitalized for this -- it's awful!) The cheapest, most effective soap for this removal is Fels Naptha. I get it in the grocery store next to other bar soaps for about a dollar a bar. Lather up, rub the lather on the exposed skin for at least 2 minutes, rinse. I also use this soap in my homemade laundry detergent and make sure to put an extra bit into the wash that's cleansing the clothes worn when exposed. If any pets have come into contact with the plant, spread some Fels Naptha lather on a washcloth and wipe their fur, then wipe with a rinsed cloth to remove the soap, especially from cats (they would ingest it when cleaning their fur).A commercial product for washing the oils off is called TecNu; it works for Poison Oak, Ivy, and Sumac, just as does Fels Naptha. I've found it in drugstores such as RiteAid and CVS. It does the same thing as Fels Naptha, just more expensively. The company (and others) have a 1% cortisone gel that is supposed to soothe the itching; for me, it doesn't work as well as Jewelweed. We recently moved onto some property in the California foothills that has poison oak that has been there so long that it has become a long vine as much as 40 feet up a tree, and with a trunk as big around as my wrist! My DH didn't recognize it as Poison Oak, was pulling it from the trees barehanded, and had to be treated with cortisone injections and pills to stop his outbreak. Now that he knows what the old stuff looks like, he wears gloves and long sleeves, and washes with Fels Naptha and doesn't break out at all. And yes, we wash his clothes with that soap, too.HTH, Sage~~~~Sixty-Year Veteran of the Poison Oak Wars! , "Lara Brown" <larabrown wrote:>> Jewell weed is supposed to be helpful. Guest guest
Dissolve ascorbic acid (vitamin C) powder in water, dab the solution on the affected areas; it will dry it out, relieve the itching, and help heal it quickly.--- On Sat, 5/30/09, rosariacina <rosariacina wrote:rosariacina <rosariacina[RFSL] Question about poison ivy Date: Saturday, May 30, 2009, 2:24 PM Hi evedry one ,I am Sara from Brooklyn,ny My grandson cought poison ivy,we think,on the left arm and now spreading to the face.
