So much rain that we are about to float away. In just a few days we've received over 4 inches, which for So Cal is pretty incredible. What a blessing the rain is for the garden! You can see the plants grow before your very eyes. Spring is just around the corner and planting fever has begun. There's lots going on at the urban homestead and online! In March Farmer D will be traveling the Atlanta, Georgia, to give a 3 1/2 hour workshop on urban homesteading at the GEORGIA ORGANICS CONFERENCE. Our 15 minute short ,HOMEGROWN REVOLUTION, has been chosen to screen at the Green Lifestyle Film Festival in LA (Mar 13-15) Last week PTF launched a collective growing challenge of harvesting ONE MILLION POUNDS ,and folks are already tallying up their harvest totals! Taking a page from history when wartime gardens' harvests accounted for nearly a third of all the vegetables consumed we are throwing in our trowels and digging for our dinners. So, you in? Let's sow, grow, harvest and weigh-in! Together we cultivate a homegrown revolution. Planting season has begun, so don't forget to request our 2009 list of FREEDOM SEEDS. What people are saying about this film "Simply put, this is the revolution. You and your family are the start to something on a whole new level. Inspiration, dedication, and motivation is all that I can feel. I will follow in your footsteps. I have been drowning in a sea of gloom and doom. This video has gently nudged me out of my stupor and has reminded me why I even started paying attention to all that needs to be changed in the first place. I can start this right now, right here, today, in my own backyard. I don't need to wait for oil to run out, or the Great Depression Part II. This is something that I can do for my family and for myself. " Homegrown Solutionsâ„¢ Would you like to learn more about urban sustainability and how to start your very own urban homestead? Blow out another candle - LHITC blog turns EIGHT! Back in 2001 LHITC was the first blog/site detailing adventures of urban homesteaders. Recently we've seen an overwhelming movement of urbanites degrassing and growing their own food and striving to live a low impact more self reliant life. This month the UK Telegraph did an article about our family - check it out here (but first before you read it, hear what we had to say.... yeah, somestuff that was quoted was slightly taken out of context!) The summer garden is growing and we are up to our eye balls in homegrown fruits and vegetables. You can read all about our harvesting and preserving efforts online. Don't forget you can stock up on supplies for your own home preservation efforts at our online store. SAVE THE DATES! This Sunday kick off summer with another one of our popular FILM & FOOD night with a brand NEW must see documentary - CONSUME THIS MOVIE.
