The Simple LifeBy Sheryl SimonsTHE LAW OF CHOICEOne day a couple hopped into a taxi and took off for the airport. They were driving in the right lane when suddenly a large black car pulled out of a parking space right in front of us. The taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at them. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. He honestly was really friendly! So they asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital." This is when the taxi driver taught me what I now call: The Law of the Garbage Truck. He explained the following: Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it, and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... love the people who treat you right, and pray for the ones who don't. Remember you cannot always choose what happens to you in life, but you can always choose how you react to it. We live by choice, not by chance.* * *Everyone knows that St. Valentine's Day will be here in a few short weeks. Why not plan something simple, but meaningful. Even if you are not in a relationship right now, you can make it fun for you and some friends. Don't limit yourself to romance. How about a dinner of friends for an annual "Lonely Hearts Club". Have a raffle to see who has the "Biggest Lonely Heart". If you have kids, plan a special night for your sweetheart by planning a nice dinner in, or out. Get a babysitter, or maybe have a Valentine's party with the kids early, and plan a surprise for after they are in bed. You do the cooking, buy or make a nice card, and really go all out for your sweety - especially if you are not in the habit of being the "romantic". Now is your chance. Never mind you can complain about your partner `til the cows come home, but when it really boils down, what would you do without them? And, while you're at it, write down all those reason's you love them in a card you make yourself. Or, dig up all those old cards and bind them together to begin a book. Show them how you really feel! Don't be one of those "not really into you" people. Don't be half-hearted in your relationship. Make it work by being your loved one's biggest fan. But even if you think Valentine's Day is corny, or commercial, or whatever excuse you have, really step up and get ready for a day or evening neither of you will ever forget! – Or maybe you have a group of friends who could put on a pot-luck for everyone. Whatever you decide, start planning ahead – you will be glad you did! No matter what the holiday, there is always a way to make it special! Why waste any chance at all to make a special day? * * *Simple Valentine's DessertHave you ever had a strawberry dipped in chocolate? Or a piece of pineapple, apple slice, or banana? You can buy those chocolate dipping pieces, chocolate or white chocolate bark, or just use milk or dark chocolate chips. Use a bit of oil or butter and melt slowly in a double boiler. When chocolate is creamy, dip fruit ahead of time and chill or right at dessert time. You can also use pieces of pound cake, cookies, or use your imagination!Keeping it Simple,SherylNote: email me with your best romantic idea or story!Email: thesimple_life Great Deals on Dell Laptops.
