Maybe that would be another resource for you, talking to someone at a local garden center-not Lowes or Home Depot. I am going to go back this weekend and check out their fruit trees, they just got them in, yay! I'm going to rip out a few shrubs to make room for a few. I did get a few seeds to plant out directly and see what happens-lettuce, beets, collards, radishes, an a few other things. I worked on the new strawberry bed the other day (we made a bigger bed for them, I added amendments and transplanted some over.) Today I'm going to get some tomato seeds started indoors. And maybe some green onions and some other early veggies. Cyndi In a message dated 1/8/2009 5:37:16 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, n.tgardener writes: Hi Cyndi, I do have the printouts! Thanks though. The master gardeners also have several events throughout the year that I plan to attend. I just can't do the actual master gardener classes. I'll have to check and see about the hotline too. That might come in handy! LOL Gotta run, the wee one is awake. They usually have a hotline and can answer your questions. In Houston, they also had many handouts that we mailed out, although they may have stopped doing that by now, with all the info available online these days. But it's still well worth contacting them and getting their advice. Here in CA, I was able to get a printout from UC Davis that gave the recommended planting dates for my area. In Texas, you might be able to find something similar at one of the larger colleges. Like Texas A & M. Gotta run out the door now, but when I get home again later today, I'll se if i can google it for ya. Cyndi In a message dated 1/7/2009 7:57:54 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi! Hi Everybody! I found out that the MG do indeed have a hotline. I was in my local farm store the other day and they were very helpful. I had a few q's for them! I've been super busy starting massive amounts of compost, hauling bunny poo home and amending one garden bed to get it ready for onions, peas and potatoes. I also had a couple fruit trees to get in the ground. I have to run and get ready for work, but I just wanted to stop in and say hi. Everybody that sent me e-mail....I promise I will get back to you! We had a nice break in the weather and I took advantage of it to get a lot of outside work done. I'll be on the computer for a little while this afternoon and will touch base with you all... rebecca Cyndikrall1/8/2009 10:01:49 A.M.
