Guest guest
I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. (On the contrary, it is referred to as ¡Bankruptcy Planning¢). Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about. Circuit City (filed Chapter 11) Ann Taylor- 117 stores nationwide closing Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug ,and Catherine's to close 150 stores nationwide Eddie Bauer to close stores 27 stores and more after January Cache will close all stores Talbots closing down specialty stores J. Guest guest
This part made me laugh (below)... I immediately though of damage control. I wouldn't buy ANY gift cards through those vendors. If Ann Taylor is cutting back in Jan of 2008, I can bet even more of their stores will start to mysteriously disappear after the holidays. They already had planned 117 closings as of Jan 2008. They are already in " restructuring " mode. NEW YORK (MarketWatch) 11/2008 -- AnnTaylor Stores Corp. (ANN:Ann Taylor Stores Corporation said Friday that it lost $13.4 million, or 24 cents a share, in the third quarter. In the same period a year ago AnnTaylor earned $40.8 million, or 66 cents a share. I think the point of the post was to alert people to the possibility that with the economy the way it is, to be careful buying gift cards. Large corporations would not let the consumer know of their pending doom NOW, especially with the cash they can pull out of their pockets. Just be careful. , " Barb " <FirstYrs08 wrote: > In January 2008, we announced plans to close > some underperforming stores, as part of a strategic restructuring > program to make us an even stronger Company that can continue to > serve you in the future.
