IMPORTANT WARNING ABOUT HACKING OF Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 12:59 AMIMPORTANT WARNING ABOUT HACKING OF This is primarily aimed towards Moderators of email groups at . But allmembers should be aware of this new, very clever scheme for trying to hackharvest email addies for spam engines. If you have a account..... .... or are on , read this.WARNING ABOUT GROUPLY.COMThis is a new site which advertises they can make accessing your groupsfaster and easier. Most of us are too seasoned to fall for something likethis, but I am posting this as a warning. This is what happens when you join: First, when a member joins, itautomatically changes their primary email address for the groups, givingthem a @grouply.com extension. This is being done unaware to those who arejoining. Secondly, members who join the grouply website are having to givetheir member ID and password. This opens up a security issue for thosemembers. Thirdly, once a member joins grouply, it opens access to the filesand posts of each group to the grouply website. Grouply staff can thenaccess these files. If they get hacked, then it opens the doors to th getting hacked as well. It has also been reported that it'sgenerating a lot of spam already. In other words, information from a groupcan be made accessible to everyone, and massive amounts of spam with youremail address can be generated. The following information tells you the steps which need to be taken ifsomeone has joined Grouply.comIDENTIFY THEFT AT GROUPLY.COMThere is a message going out to different advertising andsuggesting that you join a new group called GROUPLY. This group claims tohelp manage all your and you will get a summary, at the end ofthe day, telling you what is going on in allyour groups.IF YOU JOIN THIS GROUP, they use you r ID and password to post'massmailings' (can be junk, can be porno) and send them to anyone, and sinceit's YOUR ID they are using, others will think it is coming from you. Forinstance, you could get an email CLAIMING that it came from 'emagic2' and it really is not from this group. I could get an email, with thismass mailing, claiming it came from me, and it wouldn't have been from me.Again, IF YOU HAVE JOINED THIS GROUP called 'GROUPLY' IMMEDIATELYleave Grouply. Then go into your account at:http://groups. / mygroups and change your password. Some groups haveposted that this will help. Unsubbing from that groupwon't make a difference (but I think you will want to) so change your Password. By joining this group you have also exposed all your groups, groupmembers and group leaders to hacking of their emails and group information.Because of this problem, all members with a email grouply.com are beingremoved from the affected groups. This is the only way to protect all themembers. This is how Identity theft gets going. They now have your real email, your emails, any emails listed in your and can mail as you inand out of the .I hope you understand what is happening and will take precautions to protectyour ID.Thanks; The TeamAOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs.
