Guest guest
From what I understand, mostly all veggies that are precut and bagged are treated with a variety of chemicals, including chlorine. Supposedly they wash off the veggies after they treat them with chlorine, but as you've found out, a lot still remains on the veggies. I'm not sure that the remaining chlorine off-gases, since it's enclosed in a bag, which concerns me. Cyndi In a message dated 11/3/2008 8:54:13 P.M. She called the company and they told her that they wash the potatoes with a chlorine/water mix before bagging them. The reason we smell the chlorine is probably because we have a fresher bag. If I am not mistaken I think the guy told my wife that all root crops are cleaned this way. Yep, we grow our own pototatoes. If you can't grow your own root crops because of where you live you may want to look for local farmers in your area and see about buying direct. This cleaning is done in the packaging stage.
