Pacific Daylight TimeSubj: Mindful Wealth - Finding your inner small biz (how to steps) The Health Ranger's Mindful Wealth Email List Dear Mindful Wealth rs, In the last Mindful Wealth email, we talked about the advantages of making a business out of the things you're interested in. That way, you can incorporate many of your regular expenditures (on books, computers, health products, travel, etc.) as legitimate business expenses in your small business. But what if you don't already have a small business? What kind of small business should you start? In this email, I reveal a simple strategy for determining what kind of small business suits you best (and plays on your strengths). There are two key points to understand first, though, before getting into that: Point #1) Choose a small business that allows you to start with little or no money. Don't invest a fortune and hope to get it back. The economy is tough right now. Controlling expenditures is essential for turning a profit. Point #2) ALL small businesses require time and effort. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Even the best business opportunities require you to expend time, effort and intention. So be prepared to spend some time up front: An online business *could* be profitable in just two weeks, but a more realistic expectation is 6-12 months. As an example, I wrote 1,000 articles for NaturalNews over a period of 2.5 years before the website really started to take off. Think about that for a minute: I invested perhaps 3,000 hours of my time to do that. It's a lot of time. Fortunately, I've learned a lot since then about easier ways to get things rolling online. So the ideas I'll be sharing with you are FASTER than what I just described. But they all require effort. What kind of business to start? I've helped many people launch successful online businesses. In doing that, I've learned that it's critical to align your business with your strengths. For example, what's your favorite way of communicating to people? Are you a better talker, writer, story-teller or video personality? Are you a researcher? Are you a comedian? What's your most effective way of communicating to people? Because communication is key to all this. That's how you're going to earn money in your online business -- by communicating with people online, bringing people to your website where you offer something of value to them (content, products, links to products, recommendations, etc). So ask yourself this question right now, and make sure you get the answer. Depending on your answer, here are some possible avenues to explore: * If you are a TALKER: Consider starting an online podcast or radio show. * If you are a WRITER: Consider starting an online blog, news site or article site. * If you are a TECHNICAL THINKER: Consider starting a product review site where you take a close look at the ingredients in popular products. * If you are a GOOD FRIEND: Consider getting some training, then starting an online health coaching service. * If you are a VIDEO GODDESS: Consider starting your own video series. Start with YouTube, and use it to bring visitors to your website. * If you are a PHOTOGRAPHER: Consider starting a site of photo tours of key events in the industry. Use your photography to give people "virtual tours" of events they cannot attend in person. * If you are a TECHNICAL PERSON: Consider offering website design services, specializing in health-related websites. Or maybe consider becoming an e-commerce specialist, to help people get their shopping carts up and running. * If you are a NATURAL LEADER: Consider getting involves in a high-integrity network marketing company, where your leadership skills will be well appreciated. * If you are an ARTIST: Consider creating pieces of art (music, painting, sculpture, etc.) that are hard-hitting enough to go viral across the 'net, bringing people back to your website. (We can even help with this...) Above all, consider what you are GOOD at. Because if you're going to start a small business, you absolutely MUST focus on your strength. Don't try to be somebody else. Be yourself, and do what you're good at. Also, be prepared to DEVELOP your skills. I've spent over 10,000 hours developing my writing skills, and over the last three years, I've developed my speaking skills (I used to suck at speaking). Nobody is born a great writer, speaker or communicator. It always takes time and effort to develop such skills, but you'll be ahead of the game if you start with your natural abilities and then develop them from there. Next question: What do you LIKE to communicate about? Now that you're figured out what you're GOOD at doing, the second question is: What do you LIKE? Are you fascinated by healing crystals? Medicinal herbs? Physical fitness? Do you like Eastern philosophy? Meditation? Pilates? Recipes? Kitchen gadgets? Figure out what you really LIKE to do. It's an easy thing to do, by the way: Just look around your house and look at the titles of your books. That's a good clue of what you're really interested in. Ask yourself what would you like to learn MORE about? Or, if you still don't know what you like, ask your friends what they think you like. They'll be able to tell you right away. Once you know what you're GOOD at, and what you LIKE, then you now have an intersection of the two elements necessary to start your online business. For example: * If you're good at VIDEOS, and you like preparing RAW FOODS, then you can create raw foods preparation videos and use them to bring people to your website. * If you're good a RESEARCH, and you like HERBS, then you can create a site comparing the technical details of herbs or specific herbal products. * If you're good at TALKING, and you like NUTRITION, you could join a young network marketing company whose products (and integrity) you really like, since verbal communication can help you succeed a lot in such a system. * If you're goot at WRITING, and you like GARDENING, you could write a book of secrets for low-maintenance organic gardening (or whatever topic suits you best). You could even publish excerpts on NaturalNews through our contributing authors program, and your author byline could link to your own website (and book sales page). .... you get the idea. Combine what you're GOOD at with what your natural INTERESTS, and you have a winning foundation for a successful online business. One thing you'll notice about all the ideas here is that they bring people to your website. This is a key concept for all online marketing. In the next email I send you, I'll talk about WHY this is crucial, HOW to capture their email addresses, and WHAT to offer them once they're on your site.
