Guest guest
I haven't posted in a while. So busy! My garden is just about done, hard frosts hit this week. I still have to dig up the potatoes, witloof and fennel and bring in the winter squash. I'll mulch the carrots and beets and harvest as needed. I ended up with 65 pounds of onions. Most are in the cellar. I carmelized about 10 pounds last weekend in the crockpot. My baby corn finally produced and I got about 25 dozen ears, which yielded about a quart once shucked-they could be harvested when larger, but I ran out of time. I'll plant them earlier and fertilize regularly. They are delicious. I've been making lists of what to grow next year, more of some things, less of others. I'll look for earlier and smaller tomato varieties. The Amish Paste and Brandy Boy tomatoes were to die for, but slow to ripen and cracked horribly. This weekend I'll be at the beaming Bioneers conference-my annual balm for all the doom and gloom. Lots of speakers who are working to solve the problems of climate change, carbon culture, social, environmental and economic justice. This year's local workshop focus is on local foods; growing and preserving, open space, local agriculture...I can use a big dose of hope about now. Ellen -- " You never can tell with bees.
