Guest guest
Has anyone verified the validity of these statements? I am all for refusing to eat ANYTHING genetically modified! I read something a while back about a fake letter going around & asking people to send it to a govt agency - the letter used big, technical names that basically meant " water " & it made everyone look stupid because they signed on to send out emails protesting the use of water in our environment. Not saying this is doing the same but just thought we should all take a closer look at these before putting our good names on them. What is the GM food that the sugar comes from? Is it corn - HFCS? Is it sugar beets? Was there an article in the NY Times that references all this for us? (I'd look myself but I need to get to sleep!LOL). , cyndikrall wrote: > > _http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/568/campaign.jsp? campaign_KEY=26087_ > (http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/568/campaign.jsp? campaign_KEY=26087) > **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. > Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest
You are talking about the dihydrogen monoxide hoax. That is very important to remember because it even had ALISO VIEJO, CA officials ready to ban styrofome because it is made from Dihydrogen Monoxide. The message said the following about Dihydrogen Monoxide: · is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.· contributes to the "greenhouse effect."· may cause severe burns.· contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.· accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.· may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.· has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death. The funny part is that the e-mail told the truth. Dihydrogen Monoxide is very dangerous. It is also called water and very important. We will die if we stop drinking it. This is an example of how people can try to trick us into fearing things that we should really not fear and how we must all do our homework before we react. Anyone can take somethng, well like water, and make it out to sound like somthing we should ban. Can you imagine how the officials in Aliso Viejo, CA felt after they found out that Dihydrogen Monoxide is water? Now think how much easier it is for someone to trick us into fearing something that we don't have to fear? That is why I always say, "Verify all things and hold fast to that which is true." I did a quick search on the internet on this subject and found lots of websites about Hershey starting to use GM Sugar and it looks like it is Sugar Beets. But unforunatly I don't see any official or well known websites that talk about it. I will keep looking though when I have more time. Right now I have to get some sleep (lol). If anyone does come across any official or well known trusting websites on this subject please do let me know. I will let you all know if I come up with anything more solid. Thanks. Guest guest
Here's another article, in which Hershey stated in Dec, 2007 that they would use GM sugar made from sugar beets. It is definitely not a hoax. Consumers in Brazil can now eat Hershey’s Kisses without fear of GM ingredients. Unfortunately, that is not the case for US consumers. Several weeks ago, Hershey’s in Brazil announced that it will not use GM ingredients, including GM beet sugar, in the products it makes in Brazil, but it remains silent about its plans in the US. Candy giant Hershey's Brazilian subsidiary announced that it will not use sugar from Genetically Modified (GM) beets. The US division of Hershey's, however, said on December 4, 2007 that it would use GM sugar from Monsanto's Genetically Modified Roundup Ready sugar beets. According to New West News, Kellogs, Hershey's and Crystal Sugar had all reversed their seven year opposition to GM Sugar because "public resistance to GM foods seems to have faded." US farmers planted GM sugar beet crops for the first time this year. These Roundup Ready® GM sugar beets are genetically altered to resist Monsanto’s toxic weed killer, Roundup, and its active ingredient, glyphosate. But here’s the scary part: When the USDA first approved the planting of GM sugar beets, the EPA also increased the maximum allowable residues of glyphosate on the beet roots (from which sugar is extracted) by a staggering 5,000%! This EPA policy change was made at the request of Monsanto, producer of GM sugar beet seeds. What this means for consumers is that the more GM ingredients permitted in our foods, the greater the likelihood that we are ingesting more toxic chemicals. What’s worse is that there will be no way to know if we’re eating GM beet sugar once it hits the market, which could happen as early as next year, because GM ingredients are NOT labeled. So, Hershey's is not the only company to be planning to use GM sugar. Cyndi In a message dated 10/15/2008 9:45:30 P.M.
