3 October 2008 Greetings! This is my healthier version of a recipe I saw in Martha Stewart Living. You slice the pears thinly and pile them in a mold. When it's baked, you unmold it and you can see all the layers of pears. I took one look at the picture and said, "baklava!" I made mine in individual ramekins, layering the pears with walnuts, and poured honey on top after baking. Very delicious! If you want to make it Martha's way, leave out the walnuts and top with Caramel Sauce. PEAR TERRINE makes 1 serving 1 pear 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped 2 tablespoons melted butter 1 tablespoon honey

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Peel the pear and slice it very thin. If you have a slicer or mandoline, that's the perfect tool. But you can also use a thin, sharp knife. In a half-cup ramekin, place a layer of pear slices. With a pastry brush, apply melted butter. Sprinkle some walnuts at about 1/3 and 2/3 through the process, and again on top. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a tester poked into the pears meets no resistence. If you want to, you can turn it out on a plate after it cools a bit, or eat it out of the ramekin. Either way, top with honey or caramel sauce.

Martha served hers with a bit of blue cheese on the side. That's sounds good to me.
