Guest guest
Lots of unrelated comments..... I live in Nebraska (city dweller) & we have an open field that backs up to our back yard. Well, when my kids were about 9 mos old, I was at the kitchen window and saw a HUGE bird on our back fence. I ran and got the video camera because I knew no one would believe me - it was a bald eagle, right there in the city!?!? By the way, I have WONDERFUL news - my " water softener " troubles are over. I finally convinced my husband to take the whole thing out and he did. That sucker is GONE - WHOOOPEEE! Has anyone heard of the Mittleider gardening method? Is it a scam? I saw a with that name and wondered if it was anything helpful or a waste of my time. Big thanks to you Cyndy - I found the midwest gardening book and its on its way. My new favorite show is " Stuff Happens " with Bill Nye. For months I've been getting the riot act from my husband after pitching all plastic & teflon (well, okay, and I had to buys some new stainless steel and caste iron things). Anyways, he loves Bill Nye and watched " Stuff Happens " tonight. Not only is he now on board with the whole teflon and plastic issues but he vowed to stop drinking the fake creamer & start composting. Bill Nye is a MIRACLE WORKER <grins>. This site makes my day! Guest guest
Congrats on getting rid of the water softener. :-) I do feel your pain with dealing with the hard water, but there are some healthier ways of doing it. I did a quick google on bald eagles in Nebraska and found this info: http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/wildlife/eagles.asp I hope you see more. :-)Mittleider-I think a lot of it is hype, personally. I am positive they DO get results, but you have to buy their pre-packaged fertilizers to follow their plan. I think people like Mittleider because they have very precise, strict instructions to follow. People like that, especially beginning gardeners. There's less room for error. The important part of their protocol seems to be the fertilization, which can translate over into any type of gardening one prefers. They use compost tea to water their plants-anyone can do this-and they don't tell you what they put in their prepackages mix, but even if you just did this, and didn't buy all the books and tapes, you'd probably still get good results. So, if you're a beginning gardener and feel more comfortable having specific guidelines to follow, Mittleider is as good as any. I like their intensive planting strategy. I might investigate their fertilizers and see if they are really organic, since I do use a semi-hydroponic method of gardening. I hope you find that Midwest gardening book useful. I do like the Sunset books. Bill Nye the Science Guy? I didn't know he had another series. I don't watch that much TV. I'll have to check it out. My husband started to enjoy Ed Begley Jr.'s show, so he might get into this too. cyndi :-) In a message dated 9/11/2008 7:19:26 A.M.
