DHA VS ALZHEIMER'S A type of omega-3 fatty acid called

docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) may help prevent the abnormal clumping of

certain proteins that leads to the development of Alzheimer's

disease, according to a new study published in the Journal of

Neuroscience. The research was conducted by scientists from the

University of California at Irvine and from Martek Biosciences, a

corporation that makes commercially available DHA products. --

Just a article I found on DHA added in infant formula. I skimmed through them but they have some helpful information. -Michelle. http://infant-toddler-health.suite101.com/article.cfm/how_safe_is_formula_with_dha

Yikes! I've never researched formula. I was lucky enough to be able to nurse my kids. I can't believe they use hexane to extract the DHA. In that case I would definately use another source such as fish oil. The good stuff like Nordic Natural that's been tested for heavy metals everything. I love the quote you used. May I forward your post to my natural parenting group?

Thanks,

Yeah I thought with my first DD who was in the NICU so breast feeding didn't work that I was doing the better thing by giving her formula with DHA but geesh. I wish I would have known. I nursed my second so she never had it. Shannon nursed her DD until she self weened so now she is looking for a good formula. I remember hearing something about DHA but couldn't remember until I looked it up again this morning.

Please go ahead and forward it. I think the more people know the more educated descicions they make. And even if they decide to use the formula with DHA atleast they know about it. :) -Michelle.
