Hey, Cyn...thanks. I am thrilled to be back!!! <big grins>

I'm still going to write to you offlist, but since a lot of the decisions I've made recently have to do with lifestyle preferences and "living simply," so I decided to post the Reader's Digest version here online:

Went to Mexico (enjoyed myself despite the company--long story!), and found myself unemployed within 8 weeks. (The new job was supposed to be a 45 hour work week but it turned out to be 70 plus. They always lie!) It wouldn't have been so bad if I was paid for the time I put in, but this was a salaried managerial position and they wouldn't consider hourly. After 8 exhausting weeks, I decided this was no way for anyone to live, even if it meant having to give up my house because I could not make it financially since the divorce and pay cuts. It was very hard to close that chapter of my life, but it was necessary for happiness and quality of life. I chose to simplify; lessen my dependency on money and employment so I can take better care of myself and have a better quality of life. (There is little time to eat well or exercise when you work 70 plus hours a

week...) So I made some tough decisions and I sold my house and all my belongings; living with my folks until January when I will move to...

(Here's the fun part!)

<drum roll please>...

CALIFORNIA!!! WOO-HOO!!! I win! I win!!! <JUMPS UP AND DOWN CLAPPING> It's not been easy having never been unemployed before, but I am embracing this as an opportunity for change. How often does someone my age (48) find themselves unattached and not held down by a house and a job and a husband? I have to grab this opportunity while I can! I will follow my son and his family to Livermore for his post doc so I can watch my grandchildren grow up...

'Nuff about me...how are ya'll? I find myself enthralled with the gardening thread and really miss having a garden since I am now 'homeless' and yardless. (Yeah, my folks have a yard and garden I can walk in but it's not mine!) I am excited about the idea of a year round garden in sunny CA. Any truth to that rumor??? <wiggles eyebrows> I am wondering how it is different from the short season gardening of the Midwest? I hear the tomatoes don't taste as good, or is that just BS?

I think I can learn a lot from you transplanted 'Easterners' in the west...

P.S. Regarding the sugar and flour fest on Retro Recipes...me too! I have fun reading the recipes and remembering sampling some from my childhood, but it's pure nostalgia for me. I wouldn't touch 'em with a ten foot pole, hahahahaha!

Cee, that is SO FUNNY! I can't believe it! Well, with all you've been thru, the universe is definitely telling you it's time for a major change. It would be fun if you, me, and Noelle could arrange to meet up sometime down in So. Ca. Maybe this winter if we go visit the inlaws in palm Springs. Wouldn't that be cool?I'm glad you'll be near your son. How is your granddaughter? I'm looking forward to hearing more details, as all these changes unfold. You really deserve some good things happening in your life. I'm sorry the job didn't work out, but maybe that's for the best. It'll give you the motivation to move HERE, lol.

Yes, you can certainly garden year round here, even me in northern CA. I do struggle with tomatoes, it's so hot, but with the new garden beds Kail built, our tomatoes came out really good this year. Not as good as they were in PA, but pretty darn good.
