Besides my mystery plant that turned out to be a sunflower last month, I have another mystery plant. It sprouted up in the lawn between my front garden bed and the bed along the side of the house. It had squash type leaves and blooms. Then it started growing a green veggie.....looked like a zucchini in color and skin texture. But it soon grew into a ball shape & didn't elongate like a zuke should.

I have attached a pic of the veggie this plant grew. From what I can find online it looks like it might be some new type of zuke called an Eight Ball?

I was just wondering if anyone here has ever grown one or has any experience with or advise on this type of zuke.

It's a hybrid, right?.....so saving the seeds for next spring to grow more won't be a good idea?

thanks,

sluggy

Sluggy, I've had cross pollination and weirdly mutant veggies many times with members of the squash family. Having said that, there IS a round zucchini variety:

Any hybrid veggie won't come true from seed, unfortunately.
