Good article from Mercola today on how food affects your behavior. I wish I had known more about this when my kids were young! You guys with small children are so lucky to have this kind of information now.

Cyndi-

The behavior of my kiddos is SO much better now, on the natural foods! My Meghan....(who knew?).......is the sweetest, most compassionate 9 year old I've ever known. And she's beautiful, too. Her skin used to be awful. Now it is like porcelain. It was rough and red...no more. She was the one that I used to pray about when I went to bed..and asking God what was I doing wrong with her? Well...now I know it was the food! None of us would ever go back.--- On Tue, 7/29/08, cyndikrall <cyndikrall wrote:

Thank you for the article - this will be a good reference because we

are trying to get food into schools here and have an opportunity this

fall. So this will be a good point to reference to the board.

Thank you!

Hi Cyndi,Though I don't have any children, I definitely have noticed how food affects MY behavior. Eating a typical diet for an American bachelor - lots of fast food and junk food, with lots of starches and refined grains - for years, I developed some health problems and switched my diet to a much healthier diet emphasizing healthy foods prepared in healthy ways.

Not only did my health improve, but I and others noticed changes in my behavior. I felt better and had more energy, so I was more cheerful, upbeat and friendly. I was getting compliments on losing weight, but several people also mentioned that I was a lot less irritable and less short-tempered than I used to be.

It's not just children whose behavior is affected by what they eat.Tim GambleSustainable FutureOn Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 12:58 PM, <cyndikrall wrote:

Hi Tim,

I could not agree more. Since I have cut refined sugar, caffeine, and most processed foods out of my diet, I have seen a marked improvement in my mental disposition. I just think it's especially bad when children are exposed, and sad that I didn't know it before. Well, as they say, when you know better, you do better. My family and I eat a very healthy diet now, and we are all happier and healthier for it. :-)

Different foods affect all of us differently. It's good you found what works for you. For me, giving up meat was a disaster.
