Guest guest
I live a little north of Baltimore, MD. I have a small suburban garden. I have 3 Big Boy tomatoes, 1 sungold cherry, 1 heirloom mortgage lifter, and 1 other ‘regular’ tomato plant. The tomatoes are almost 5 feet tall but the leaves are starting to curl up and the leaves at the bottom are turning brown and yellow. This seems to be happening primarily on 2 of the Big Boy plants but not the others. Any thoughts on what is going on?
Guest guest
Tomatoes can wilt and turn yellow from any number of reasons. Mine do too. For most tomatoes, it's normal, because of fusarium wilt. Some tomato varieties are more resistant than others, but the virus lives in the soil, so it's impossible to avoid. especially with the older varieties of tomatoes, the heirlooms and other types not bred for fusarium resistance. The hope is to get the tomatoes to ripen and get your harvest before the plant succumbs. Wilting can be from the heat, not enough water, too much water, etc. I'm not sure of cures for any of these things, since I don't use chemicals. I just try to get as many tomatoes as I can before the plant dies. Cyndi In a message dated 7/18/2008 3:51:09 A.M.
