June 11, 2008 · Tomatoes are off the shelves in most grocery

stores around the country because of a potential outbreak of salmonella. Paul

Roberts, author of The End of Food,

explains why he believes the tomato scare is a sign that food market needs a

massive overhaul. (11 minutes)

Points:

Become aware of the food

production system

Buy local when possible

Cheap meat has lots of

downsides to environment by consuming high grains, water and gas

Eat 25% less meat but buy meats

more sustainably raised

Cook food at home

The signs are all around us:

salmonella outbreaks; riots over food shortages; fears over mad cow disease;

water shortages; skyrocketing global food prices. These are portents for the

end of easily accessible food. Paul Roberts, author of " The End of

Food " and " The End of Oil " sees the potential cataclysm ahead. (7

minutes)
