Guest guest
Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Issue 23 — June 2008 Greetings- I was talking with some old friends recently about people’s concern with our weather and recent freak storms--such as the rash of floods and deadly tornado’s in the Mid-West. How about the long-term droughts now devastating Australia and China? These are depleting grain reserves at a time when billions of people want to buy beers and Big Macs. Or consider the looming reality of the Arctic Circle becoming completely melted during summer within the next 5 years?! We also discussed how I was such a radical in the 1980's and 90's, fighting the timber and trash industries in an effort to protect our forests and farmlands. Back then, most Americans didn’t grasp the connection between our lifestyle choices and our planet’s weather. In those days, I listened with respect to native elders who spoke of the coming days when man's total disrespect for nature and people would result in deadly rains and droughts. In today’s consumer-driven society, is the natural world still just an afterthought? Or a slogan for a vote...or a green-washing claim? Perhaps many of you readers are also pondering this very serious issue. Let us hope each and every one of us does what he/she can to create a healthier and more sustainable world! This month's newsletter highlights how we can create such a world. We’re featuring a new film on diet, about a group fighting the " Milk Mafia " . The group hopes to halt the corruption plaguing organic standards here in the USA. On a positive note, here’s a wonderful 30 second short video of the ocean. Have a wonderful summer--and don't forget to smell the beautiful roses along the way! ; ) In health, John W. Roulac Founder and CEO Nutiva P. Customer testimonials Nutiva Coconut Oil Wow--this stuff is GREAT!, February 20, 2008 By Blessed " in His arms " in Florida " This coconut oil tastes delicious. I've been using it to make fabulous popcorn & french toast. I can't wait to try it in cookies. I also started using it on my dry, cracked feet a few weeks ago, and my feet are now smooth and soft. Nothing I've ever used has worked so well. The oil feels fabulous also--it melts right into the skin and feels luxurious. I have acne, and have started using it on my face, also. It takes away the redness and calms the acne down. I love the smell and feel of this product. These groups' activities range from community gardens to GMO labeling to the banning of toxic pesticides. In 2007, Nutiva donated $70,000 to these programs. This month we're delighted to honor The Cornucopia Institute, a group dedicated to the fight for economic justice for family-scale farming communities. Their Organic Integrity Project acts as a corporate watchdog, assuring that the credibility of organic farming and the food it produces aren’t compromised through pursuit of profit. The corruption in America’s organic food industry has spun out of control. Major industrial “Milk Mafia " , pseudo-organic dairies, are skirting the USDA Organic Regs, often with Bush appointees looking the other way. The Cornucopia Institute is not afraid to call “a spade a spade”, and thus is doing more to protect organic family farmers than anyone else in America. Check out their web site and learn more about who’s really organic. Hemp Athletes Nutiva CEO and Founder, John W Roulac, is training for his August 31, 2008 Washington State Triathlon. Last year, he finished the race in 2 hours and 4 minutes. He is shooting to break 1 hour and 50 minutes this year. One way he plans to make this happen is by doing lots of hill training on his bike--plus swimming in a local lake near his home. According to John, " the ducks and the Blue Heron are starting to get used to me swimming in their lake. And this year, on the hills-- I plan to be passing riders--not being passed! " Here is John's favorite hemp smoothie before he hops on his bike: 5 tablespoons of Nutiva Hempseed Handful of local organic walnuts Fresh berries or fruit 12 oz of water Directions: Blend up and serve.
