Frugal for Life in Review

Good Morning Frugalistas!

It is a warm morning already at 5am in the Rocky Mountains and hot weather is here for the summer. Thanks for sticking around for another monthly newsletter.

It is wild seeing how the gas prices are affecting the people around me; some are biking more to work, others are finding people to car pool with and some coworkers are taking the bus for the first time - last night, as I was leaving work for home, I noticed a co-worker walking down the sidewalk (he always brings his car) and asked if he was walking home tonight, his reply was that he now walks to the bus and takes that home to save on gas and that this was his first time riding the bus. Then he patted his round belly and said that he needed the exercise anyway. A couple benefits of public transportation - money saved AND free exercise.

Well, let's get back to the newsletter....

The last newsletter left off with the first week of FFL readers filling in for me while I was on hiatus, I want to finish off with the second week of posts from my guests.

Why I'm Filthy Rich

I want to thank all of you how have sent me your guest posts, it was great taking some time off and I enjoyed reading what was on your mind.

"One half of knowing what you want is knowing what you must give up before you get it."

~Sidney Howard

With my hiatus out of the way, I have now come back to posting, but on a much less frequent behavior, about 1-2 times a week. This is more in keeping with the way my life is slowing turning; I am trying to get back to basics and reducing the excess in my life.

Recently I decided no more Sunday paper and have found that slowing down takes time to adjust to. I seem to go in spurts, but that seems to happen with whatever new discipline you are trying to acquire. That slow down has helped me to appreciate what some of the joys of frugal living are and how to best minimize the complexity of life.

Very slowly over time, I am removing both the physical clutter, but also the abstract clutter that seems to weigh me down without really noticing - time to get back to the basics. It is both freeing and scary to take those steps, but I believe I am a better person for it.

Thanks for listening and reading, see you next month,

~Dawn C.
