In honor of Earth Day, we wanted to share

some quick and easy solutions to everyday problems that can change the

world with little effort. In fact, they are so easy you might say they're

'energy efficient'!

We're not asking you to change who you are, you're

to show how a few small changes can have a big impact on our planet and our

wallets. Think of it as a Thank You card to Mother Earth for supporting us

all these years!

Problem:

Your mailbox is

bursting at the seams with junk mail. Each year, the average American

receives 560 pieces of junk mail and wastes about 8 hours dealing with it.

Solution:

Take back control of your mailbox and your time! Sign up at GreenDimes.org or NewDream.org and you could

Problem:

Old phonebooks

make up a whopping 10% of our landfills.

Solution:

Stop them from

coming by calling up your local phone company and see if they can remove

you from their list. If not, ask who prints the phonebook and call them. If

every 500 phonebooks recycled, we save 7,000 gallons of water, 3.3 cubic

produce just 1 ton of printer paper - that's a lot of trees!

Thanks Erika! Having 1 line print out on a new piece of paper has

always driven me crazy! I am very grateful to get this! And the stop

junk mail too.

I'm happy to report that I FINALLY got CapitalOne to stop sending me

stuff by sending everything they sent me back in their SASEs. After

about 10 of them, they seem to have figured it out, which they

couldn't do if I just called them politely.

I usually send back the BREs too - but usually remove my name from the info. I guess it can't hurt to include my name. Maybe I'll scrawl a "Take me off List" note across it too.
