In fact, they are so easy you might say they're 'energy efficient'! We're not asking you to change who you are, you're fan-tabulous! We're just here to show how a few small changes can have a big impact on our planet and our wallets. Think of it as a Thank You card to Mother Earth for supporting us all these years! Problem: Your mailbox is bursting at the seams with junk mail. Each year, the average American receives 560 pieces of junk mail and wastes about 8 hours dealing with it. Solution: Take back control of your mailbox and your time! Sign up at GreenDimes.org or NewDream.org and you could reduce your junk mail by 90% over the next 5 years. Problem: Old phonebooks make up a whopping 10% of our landfills. Solution: Stop them from coming by calling up your local phone company and see if they can remove you from their list. If not, ask who prints the phonebook and call them. If you can't stop the phonebooks from coming, make sure you recycle them. For every 500 phonebooks recycled, we save 7,000 gallons of water, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space, 17-31 trees, and enough electricity to power an average home for six months! Problem: The average American spends $100 a year on gas wasted as their car idles. Idling creates twice the emissions of a car in motion, not to mention that the health effects of idling is even worse for those inside the car than out. Solution: Turn off the engine when waiting for the kids, the drive-thru, or extended periods of traffic. Problem: Piles of wasted paper from your printer using an entire page for one line. It takes 3 tons of wood to produce just 1 ton of printer paper - that's a lot of trees! Solution: Reduce the paper you use when printing with GreenPrint. It's free to download and automatically eliminates wasteful pages by seeking out and removing things like that last page with just a URL, banner ads, and logos. Problem: Paper napkins aren't just cleaning your hands, they're cleaning out your wallet. The average American uses 2,200 paper napkins per year. Solution: Cloth napkins add a dash of panache to any meal. It's actually cheaper to wash cloth napkins than it is to buy paper ones. Try getting cloth napkins in several different colors and assign each family member a color. Like what you see? Want more? Guest guest
Thanks Erika! Having 1 line print out on a new piece of paper has always driven me crazy! I am very grateful to get this! And the stop junk mail too. I'm happy to report that I FINALLY got CapitalOne to stop sending me stuff by sending everything they sent me back in their SASEs. After about 10 of them, they seem to have figured it out, which they couldn't do if I just called them politely. Kate , " Sotirakos, Erika T. Guest guest
I usually send back the BREs too - but usually remove my name from the info. I guess it can't hurt to include my name. Maybe I'll scrawl a "Take me off List" note across it too. Hadn't thought of that. Terri--- On Tue, 4/29/08, cyndikrall <cyndikrall wrote: cyndikrall <cyndikrallRe: [RFSL] Re: FW: Today Only!
