Whole Grain Fuel

As days slowly begin to grow longer and winter weather blooms into warm spring days, many of us are faced with the overwhelming urge to get outside. Whether you are training for a race, itching for a spring hike, or just anticipating running without rain gear again, whole grain snacks are ideal for boosting and sustaining energy while enjoying your outdoor activities.

Because they are high in fiber, whole grains take more energy to break down and sugars are released into the blood more slowly. This causes a lasting feeling of fullness. When blood sugar rises and falls dramatically, our bodies tend to react by feeling tired and hungry. Refined grain products are quickly broken down, causing blood sugar spikes. These spikes correspond with spikes in insulin and an increase in fat collection. Eating whole grain foods will help to ward off hunger and keep blood sugar balanced during your activities.

This month, we have found some great whole grain recipes that are sure to sustain you and keep you going no matter what you have planned.

Quinoa Grain

Whole Grain Quinoa is the most nutritious of all grains. It's high in fiber, a good source of iron, and has all eight essential amino acids. It has a delicate, nutty flavor and is very easy to prepare. Widely versatile, it's great by itself or in any recipe that calls for whole grains. Our Quinoa has been thoroughly rinsed and air dried to remove the naturally occurring, bitter saponins. Ready to cook, right out of the bag.

Grand Opening Celebration is May 1st!

You are cordially invited to the Grand Opening Celebration of our new World Headquarters

at 13521 SE Pheasant Court, Milwaukie, Oregon on Thursday, May 1st, 2008. Join us anytime from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

We've moved! In September 2007, Bob's Red Mill moved to a large manufacturing and distribution facility in an effort to meet increased demand for whole grain and gluten free products. Our new facility is just one mile from our former plant and our Whole Grain Store. The new building is 2 1/2 times the size of our former manufacturing plant and our gluten free facility is now 4 times larger than before.

This move has been very exciting for our 180 employees and we will be hosting a Grand Opening Celebration on Thursday, May 1st. Bob's Red Mill employees will be giving tours of our new facility and Bob will show you how we stone grind our products. A whole grain pancake breakfast will be served all day, along with cooking demonstrations, free samples, and historical displays.

We hope to see you there!
