Guest guest
Niacinamide will have virtually no effect on your cholesterol levels. Only pure Niacin, in one or other of its forms, can do the job for you. Plain Niacin produces a distinct, and for many people, unpleasant flushing reaction that can become quite alarming. I'm one of those that has a very powerful reaction to pure Niacin. When Niacin is bonded to Inositol, it becomes, and is marketed as, Inositol Hexaniacinate (or I. Hexanicotinate), which removes the flushing. This form of pure Niacin, is, if anything slightly more effective than Niacin alone. I take 2000mg daily in two divided doses. Guest guest
Lowering Cholesterol Herb Formula. There are a number of herbs used for naturally lowering cholesterol. Medically, several herbs have been shown to be as effective as mainstream drugs for lowering cholesterol and far safer. It is also a fact that no drug for lowering cholesterol has decreased the mortality rate, as they can create a deficiency in some of the hearts most important nutrients. Natural cholesterol lowering herbs also help change the ration of of good cholesterol (HDL) to bad cholesterol (LDL). Herbs can also work to correct a disorder in the liver and fat metabolism. Many of the cholesterol lowering herbs also have antioxidant properties protecting blood vessel walls and overall health. Guggul : Guggul has been know to lower triglycerides up to 30% and reduce LDL by 35% while increasing HDL by 20% in a relatively short period of time of a few months. Guggul also prevents arteriosclerosis. In some studies guggul has performed as well as many drugs used for lowering cholesterol. Fenugreek : Fenugreek inhibits cholesterol absorption and decreases its manufacture by the liver. Fenugreek also helps to lower elevated triglycerides and control blood sugar levels in pre-diabetes stage. May help reduce cholesterol. Garlic : Garlic has been shown to lower LDL levels while helping to increase good HDL levels. In some cases studies done, garlic will reduce cholesterol and triglycerides by up to 15%. Garlic prevents oxidation of LDL and limits the build of arterial plaque. Garlic is known for lowering high blood pressure and reducing cholesterol. Green Tea : Green Tea is known to reduce cholesterol and increase the excretion of lipids. Green Tea also inhibits the enzyme that promotes blood vessel constriction. Antioxidant effects help prevent aerial damage & regulate blood sugar levels. Lowering Cholesterol recommendations include; Except for people that have an abnormal liver condition, diet is the leading way to lowering high cholesterol. You may think your diet is healthy but the chances are you consume more saturated fats than you realize. You may find you have small amounts of saturated fats in almost ever meal and don't even realize it. Step1: Take the Herbal all natural cholesterol supplement with herbal ingredients that are know to help HDL and LDL levels while supporting liver function. May be taken in conjunction with Liver & Gall formula. Step2: Reduce your intake of saturated fats. Reduce all processed foods, hydrogenated oils, butter, margarine, fried foods, meat and animal fats. Increase your intake of steamed and raw foods, whole grains, legumes, fresh vegetables, fruit and salads. Step 3: Very important Increase your intake of Omega 3, 6 & 9 unsaturated fats from cold pressed oils such as virgin olive oil, evening primrose oil and virgin flax seed oils. Taken directly and used as a replacement for salads and foods. These oils help increase your level of HDLs (good cholesterol). - Cheryl Thursday, July 15, 2004 12:43 PM Lowering Cholesterol Hello I would like some recommendations on reducing my total cholesterol. Two months ago it was 276. I started taking Niacinamide 500mg twice daily. Last week I was down to 217 but the doctor still wanted to recommend Pravachol. I absolutely REFUSE to taking any antilipid medications because of their side effects. So if you have any other recommendations on what foods to eat and what foods to avoid, I would appreciate it. I am not against taking more herbal supplements, but since I am trying to reduce the medications I take I would rather find out about FOODS to eat/avoid. Thanks! It is not common knowledge, however the majority of lecithin supplements currently on the market are derived from SOY. Soy grown in the United States ( and from other countries as well) is genetically altered (GE) Soy. In Adelle Davis generation, the lecithin she obtained may have been more effective and pure, however I really doubt that lecithin sold today has the same benefits. The irony is, many of the same people who are crusading against soy in other forms advocate taking vast amounts of lecithin to improve cholesterol levels, when actually its the supplemental soy that's been found to be most damaging (soy protein isolates, etc). Guest guest
Cheryl, you are being bamboozled about the importance of lowering cholesterol. It's a great business and a scare tactic to say you must lower cholesterol. The studies on statins show that cholesterol is indeed being lowered, but the overall mortality of those with the now lowered cholesterol is no different from those with the high cholesterol. Guest guest
Dear Nora, thank you for that news. I never have such trouble here. Maybe my pages are too full of revolutionary content to allow Americans to see them??? ;-)) Anyway, let's try something: Search the title of the article on Google, and then click on the Google link. I also notice that the heading comes up first. Possibly, if you have a slow connection you need to wait a minute to get the article to come up. Try again, and please do let me know if the problem persists. Sepp >Dear Sepp....your pages would not open...they were blank! Your heading was >there. Guest guest
You're right JoAnn. In fact, organic Lecithin, as far as I've been able to determine, is impossible to find. I have found " non GMO " Lecithin, which I obtain from iHerb. I certainly would like to know, why we can't get organic Lecithin. We have every other sort of Soy-derived product in organic form, why not Lecithin? Guest guest
I agree. My cholestral level was 310. After 6 weeks of Niacin (500mg tid) it was, and continues to be many years later about 167. I always used the " release assured " type Niacin, and learned to live with the flush. After a while the flush became an appreciated sign that the niacin was doing its work on arteries, cholestral, circulation to extremities, and other beneficial things. And , yes, the inclusion of oatmeal in a daily part of my diet- and a grapefruit once a day. It does work as part of a wonderful lifestyle change. I had read an article recently in a medical journal that research indicates niacin intake is inversely related to development of alzhiemers type dementia- that this may be a preventive measure against developing certain dementias. Guest guest
Lori, How much fish do you eat? Eat fish like salmon which has a high content of Omega-3 fish oil which is a good fatty acid that helps lower cholesterol. It's high a good fat vs bad fat plus it has a lot of protein. Also, try out the low-fat dairy products. It sometimes takes awhile getting used to but if the goal is to get healthly then you'll find a way. Substituting yogurt for sour cream is really good and skip the butter! Good Luck, Marty lori_dimmock2007 <lori_dimmock wrote: Hi Everyone I'm Lori and I live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Guest guest
dear ms.lori im not very good when it comes to lowering cholesterol but what i do know is that a change of diet would help i dont mean entirely but just eat more salads and green leafs as in things with fibers spinach lettuce these kind of things and use alot of oils(plant oils) especially in your food specially as salad dressings and such because plant oil will prevent your body from absorbing choolesterol you eat in your meal and basicly it will be just the cholesterol that the body makes wich ofcourse is less than when you eat foods containing cholesterol . have a lovely day i hope this helps (p.s fish is good to ) , " lori_dimmock2007 " <lori_dimmock wrote: > > Hi Everyone > > I'm Lori and I live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Guest guest
If they measured total cholesterol instead of separately measuring your HDL and LDL (in a total lipid profile), your " good cholesterol " (HDL) could be elevated, making the total number higher. They commonly do a total cholesterol test during free screenings because most people are unhealthy so if their total number is higher it is often due to LDL. Also, since the creation of cholesterol lowering drugs, the medical establishment has continuously lowered the number that is considered normal, so they can prescribe more drugs. So what was normal 10 years ago is elevated now. Make sure that they did a " total lipid profile " and if you take a " slightly elevated " number with a bit of caution. Guest guest
If it is only slightly elevated, it should be able to be lowered through diet and exercise. Also, eat lots of fiber should help. I would try any natural prcesses first as there are long term effects of the drugs. You might also consider message therapy as one of the problems with high cholesterol is that the body does not realease toxins but holds them internally. Message helps release toxins from the body. Also drink lots of water to help eliminate toxins. , " Mary Alford " <mary.alford wrote: > > If they measured total cholesterol instead of separately measuring your HDL > and LDL (in a total lipid profile), your " good cholesterol " (HDL) could be > elevated, making the total number higher. Guest guest
Hey Terri and everyone, I forgot to mention that intaking flaxseed oil is a GREAT way to lower cholesterol, naturally. Omega 3's will lower cholesterol. :-) So for anyone who is concerned that they need to lower their cholesterol, try adding flaxseed oil to your diets. Blending it with cottage cheese (2 to 1, 2 parts cottage cheese to 1 part flaxseed oil) makes it possible to eat several tablespoons a day. Just use a sticker mixer, hand mixer, or blender, with a little bit of some sort of milk to make thin it out a bit and make it easier to blend. I put a little stevia or honey in mine to sweeten it up a bit. I also use flaxseed oil on my salads, along with raw, organic apple cider vinegar. I just throw it on my salad and toss it all together. With some salt, pepper, and a bit of crushed garlic-yum! :-)CyndiIt's Tax Time! Get tips, forms and advice on AOL Money Finance.
