Guest guest
GREAT NEWS. I'm glad she found a way to make it work. I think it's totally fair to ask people to pick up the produce. I remember you were already volunteering last year, so it's not a change for you. I TOTALLY think you should ask her to rent a plot. I bet others would do it too, providing more income for her with no work on her part. I would do it too, if someone around here did that. Right now, I have Kail building boxes for veggies in out backyard, lol. They are based on the earthbox design, and we hope to start planting today. That's the best I can do. Luckily the local markets have a lot of the rest of the stuff we can't grow ourselves. I don't think you have a local WAP group, Sluggy, do you? Is there a WAP representative near by who might be able to put you in contact with other like minded people to go in on the meat/milk order?Cyndi In a message dated 2/27/2008 9:51:43 A.M. There is a total of ONE other csa anywhere near me here and I know that they have a waiting list as long as your arm every year.....plus getting there weekly would be a big chore, as it is some distance for us to travel. Anyway.....I got a letter yesteday in the mail from the lady who runs our csa. They ARE going to continue it, but are changing things up a bit. Alene runs the csa with her grown son. As this venture wasn't generating a fulltime income for him(and he is married and has bills to pay like all of us), he was forced to go get a 'real' job too. That left Alene with most of the work keeping the csa going. So they are scaling back to keep the organic veggies flowing! No delivery of shares, they only will sell 1/2 shares(pick ups are every other week) and to get folks to come 'volunteer' to help out, they are offering a discount if you put in 20 hr. (for the seaon) of work. I picked up our share anyway and volunteered at least that many hours so not much will change for me. I am also thinking of asking Alene if I can rent a little piece of the garden space to put in my own crops. I know there are certain things they don't plant or don't plant enough of that we like to eat, so this way I can have some other veggies. As long as we don't get a drought this summer, I can probably get over to the farm once a week to weed and talk nice to my plants & hopefully harvest.lol The farm where we buy our organic meat/dairy from is now offering a csa arrangement too for those items. The things is, since we are so far away, they will only deliver here with a certain minimum purchase amount that is more than we need. I am trying to get a group together so we can meet that min. purchase and get items delivered, as that farm is an hour away from here and driving there every 2 wks. is not doable for me. My BIL who keeps saying he wants in on this csa keeps flaking out on me and there doesn't seem to be much interest in the idea from my neighbors. It's sad..... I guess I'll have to just stock up every few months, like I've been doing with this farm, on dairy/meat to get the good stuff. The only thing is I won't be able to get fresh raw milk very often. Just felt like sharing.... sluggy Delicious ideas to please the pickiest eaters. Watch the video on AOL Living.

Cyndi ************** Actually there is a contact in Scranton. Maybe I should email her and she if she knows of a group that might be interested. My fear is that if I start a group, I may get stuck with food or paying for things if some of the group craps out on me.lol I'd rather join an established food buying group if I can. thanks for the idea! sluggy
