Guest guest
- Heritage Foods USA Celia Browne Tuesday, November 27, 2007 11:17 AM Heritage Turkey Thank You List Dear Heritage Foods USA Supporter, In China 2007 is considered the year of the pig. But for Heritage Foods USA it will no doubt be remembered as the year of the turkey. In the past few weeks Good Shepherd Ranch and Heritage Foods USA have been featured as a cover story in the New York Times and Watt Poultry Magazine, and in articles in Cottage Living, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Epicurious.com, Fast Company and Poultry Magazine. Frank Reese was also on the Martha Stewart Show and was selected as a Person of the Week on ABC News with Charles Gibson. This year about 12,000 heritage turkeys were sold, up 11,000 from 2002 when the project to save these cherished animals began. Twelve thousand is a small but powerful response by Americans against the abuses of industrial agriculture, which puts profit ahead of the well being of their animals, farmers and customers. The support for true heritage products is so strong we are confident to never see another day when commodity production dominates to the point of putting breeds like the Standard Bronze, Narragansett, White Holland, Black and Bourbon Red turkey on critically endangered lists. When you spend dollars on our site you are directly helping independent family farms earn a fair wage for their product. Frozen heritage turkeys are still available on our website (just below). Also, check out our delicious boneless and bone-in smoked and secret-cured hams! Finally, stay tuned next Tuesday for a first ever offering: Heritage Prosciutto from the Edwards Family, in business since 1926 in Surry, Virginia. This sliced and whole leg prosciutto, aged for a year, comes from Heritage Foods USA farmer Mark Newman and his Certified Humane Six-Spotted Berkshire pigs. This cured ham is of equal quality to those produced in Italy and Spain. Everyone at Heritage Foods hopes you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and wishes you a most merry December! We are happy to have found you at Cafe Rouge, in Berkeley, Calif. Wakefield, Kansas, produced some 30's born "starters", eventually transplanted in the West's soil. In Sept., we were back for a 50th medical class reunion and carried back 8 loaves of Wheatfield's best. Maybe we saw your beef on the Tallgrass Prairie. We'll be ordering from you now that we have found worthy enterprises to support. Thank you for your hard work, tenacity and dedication to preserving and marketing honest food. Linsborg, Kansas' turkey, and Lawrence, Kansas' "Wheatfield's" Walnut Bread. From Jim in Billings, MontanaI just wanted to give you some positive feedback. The turkey arrived on the 20th as promised and everyone we had over for Thanksgiving dinner really liked it. I served it "deconstructed" as shown in a piece by a butcher in last week's NYTimes and that worked so well that I would recommend it to anyone. We were happy to "save them by eating them" and will definitely be buying another! From Lisa in Tallahassee, Florida:Post-Thanksgiving Greetings! Thank you so very much for providing us with such a wonderful turkey! It was the most delicious turkey we've ever had, and we hope to be able to have another in the future. The information sheet you sent with it was very nice, too. In the past I have stuffed the turkey with a bread-based stuffing, but this year I used the simple roast heritage turkey recipe included in the New York Times article from a few weeks ago. It may not be the most lovely presentation, but here is a picture of our delicious heritage turkey (Mmmmm; too bad it's almost all gone). Lisa’s Turkey From Kristine in Los Angeles, CaliforniaDear Heritage Foods,I am eager to report that our Heritage Foods’ turkey was the best ever! We knew it would be exceptional from the moment we opened the package and saw the pristine and resilient bird. The aroma of the roasting turkey was intoxicating, the gravy made from its drippings exceptional, and the turkey itself rich and delicious. We also enjoyed the months of updates and photos. Thank you for helping to make our Thanksgiving superb. From Mitch in San Francisco, CaliforniaThank you so much for the lovely bird! And, can you please pass my gratitude to the farmers? It was the best bird I have ever tasted and I feel like it’s the first time I have ever tasted a turkey.
