Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My name is Terry, and I consume raw dairy. PA is in the middle of a raw dairy crackdown. Is raw dairy legal? It's getting to be hard to say. I know this is really short notice. I just got back in town last night and found out about it. There is a raw milk hearing on Tues, Sept 18th in Harrisburg, PA. The hearing is 10am - Noon at the Capital Complex North Office Bldg (North Street at Commonwealth Ave) in room 1. Here is a map of the area. Pick 'st' from the panel on the right. http://maps./maps_result?q1=harrisburg%2C+pa & name= & desc= & mag=2 & ds=n & BFK\ ey= & cat= & resize=l & trf=0 There will be a rally at 1pm on the capital steps. If you buy PA raw dairy, or are sympathetic to the raw dairy cause, it is IMPERATIVE that you attend the hearing and/or the rally if it is at all possible as there is a REAL AND GROWING PROBLEM with state interference with our raw dairy farmers. They are getting harassed and shut down and being told they can't even give their milk away. And not just dairies where there are problems. We need bodies. If you can get other sympathetic people to come, please bring them. We need you to make signs. All you need is some poster board and a black marker. Here are some suggestions: WE WANT RAW DAIRY SALES!!! LEAVE OUR RAW DAIRY FARMERS ALONE!!! DON'T MESS WITH OUR RAW MILK!!! PRO-CHOICE FOR RAW MILK!!! RAW MILK IS ALIVE. PASTURIZED MILK IS DEAD. RAW MILK: THE ONLY REAL MILK!! RAW MILK: IT DOES A BODY GOOD!! Metered parking in Harrisburg is limited to 2hrs, afaik, so you'll need to park in one of the garages. There's one on Market St and another on 3rd St. I don't know the rates. The Capital Complex is on/around 3rd St. There is bus service from outlying areas if you want to park in a mall lot. Scheduled routes can be found here: http://cattransit.com/how_to_fares.php (1.60 ea way: EXACT CHANGE or more - driver doesn't give change) http://cattransit.com/routes_and_schedules_bus.php Park & Ride place of choice: Colonial Park Mall: Boscov's - I-83 exit 50A Colonial Park. Guest guest
Hello, Terry, and welcome to the list. Thanks for the introduction! My heart goes out to you and PA's struggles. My husband and I are from PA too, but now we live in CA. We lived in Lebanon and Lancaster counties. Every state has different laws regarding raw milk. I am lucky that it is legal in CA, but the government sure does not make it easy for raw dairy farmers. I don't know if you have ever heard of Organic Pastures, but they are the best raw dairy farm in CA-maybe even in the country. You can find them if you google them. I don't know if they would be a valuable resource to you or not, since they are not in PA, but it might not be a bad idea to contact Mark, the owner of the dairy, for any help or insights he might be able to provide in your state's fight to retain the right to purchase raw milk. Best of luck. Please keep us posted. My good friend Denise (Sluggy) lives in PA, and might be interested in hearing updates. Cyndi In a message dated 9/17/2007 12:34:30 P.M. Unfortunately, raw dairy has taken 3 hits in PA this year, with contaminations at various dairies so I'm sure the bureaucrats will use this as ammunition to tighten regs. I don't know if there are any other Pennsylvanians on this list but if there are, here are some PA govt'. officials that they can email in support of raw milk. It's prolly not feasible for most people to show up for the hearing or the rally unfortunately....unless you live near Harrisburg and don't work the old 9 to 5 shift. Even if you just come to PA to buy your raw milk or even don't live anywhere near PA, sending an email to support keeping the regulations as they are and not tightening them couldn't hurt, right? I've sent my emails already. ;-) James Dell, Director of the Division of Milk Sanitation: (717) 787-3233, jdell Bobby McLean, director of the PA Bureau of Food safety: (717) 787-4248, bmclean Dennis Wolff, Secretary of Agriculture: (717) 772-2853, dwolff Art Hershey, Chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Agriculture Committee: (717) 783-6435, ahershey Keep the faith, Sluggy
