Eat Local Challenge and 100-Mile Thanksgiving

Let's put the power of the 100-Mile community behind the Eat Local Challenge and the 100-Mile Thanksgiving.

Hello 100-Milers,

Eating locally is great. Eating locally with thousands of other people is even better. And two big upcoming events give us a chance to get together and make some noise for a saner food system. The third annual Eat Local Challenge begins September 1, when thousands of people will commit to eat local for 30 days. Let's put the power of the 100-mile community—did you know that 10,000 people are now signed up to the site?—behind this year's effort. Here's how your participation can make an impact: 1. Sign up! If you're not already registered with 100MileDiet.org, click here—and forward this invitation to friends, family, and colleagues.

2. Organize! Plan a potluck with friends, a harvest fest, a public picnic. Put the media on your invitation list.

3. Tell the world! Send your Eat Local Challenge stories, photos, videos, and other dispatches to jamesandalisa

Then, start preparing for the biggest local-eating day of the year: 100-Mile Thanksgiving, a one-day flashpoint to take back the Thanksgiving tradition as a celebration of the local harvest. If you only eat one 100-mile dinner this year, make it 100-Mile Thanksgiving!

Check out last year's Thanksgiving festivities and start making plans for 2007.

We'll be blogging every day until Thanksgiving—whew!—at the 100-Mile Diet website . Coming up: a two-week rural adventure, Kalamazoo, New York City...

–Let's eat,
