Dear Heritage Foods Supporter, This week we bring you an offer for fresh chickens, an invite to Tomasso Trattoria in Massachusetts, an update on the sockeye salmon run along the Fraser River and a reminder about heritage turkeys. Thanks to your support in the past and the positive feedback we have received, we are happy to announce that White Rose farm, part of the Good Shepherd poultry network, continues to raise Indian Game Birds and they are available fresh once again starting August 29th and then as frozen into the future. These chickens exhibit a deep chicken essence and are the favorite of many home and professional chefs. Two Indian Game Dark Cornish Chickens FRESH 3-3.5 lbs each$69 – Shipping Included Four Indian Game Dark Cornish Chickens FRESH 3-3.5 lbs each$111.00 – Shipping Included Tomasso Trattoria welcomes Heritage Foods and food lovers near Southborough, Massachusetts to the celebration “Beauty of the Beast,” a 5-course wine dinner featuring heritage breed pork on Friday, August 17th. Cooking will begin the day before with a whole, heritage breed, one of Mark Newman’s purebred Berkshire pigs. Click here for details. The season for Sockeye is almost over and sadly our friends on Lummi Island report that the salmon run has been particularly bad this year. Not surprisingly, this is likely due to poor marine survival conditions (which include very warm waters and reduced food supply). We are not going to have the salmon available this year but we are waiting with bated breath to see how the final pink salmon season looks at the beginning of September. The Heritage turkeys are doing well, frolicking and gearing up for the fall. We are assembling a montage of shots from the Turkey Cam on our homepage, the portfolio will be sent soon. We and the farmers appreciate your help by pre-ordering your holiday bird today! Guest guest
Probably... Goods news about my son, the "former" vegetarian...he has begun to eat wild salmon and other fish! Since his daughter is going to be born very soon (next two weeks or so) we have had much discussion about what is best for the baby and why my parents went back to eating fish and meat. This opened the door for a wide variety of topics, and he and his wife have decided to go back to a more "stone age" diet, including healthy fats like butter, olive oil and organic nuts. After looking at the ingredient list on many of the so-called healthy vegetarian foods, he realized that he didn't ever want his daughter to ingest all those chemicals and whatnot, and by extension, why would he feed it to himself??? They already ate pretty healthy to begin with, but they have gotten serious about ridding their diet of as many chemicals, hormones and toxins as possible. If they want potatoes now, they no longer depend on Betty Crocker...they cook a REAL potato. No more microwave popcorn, etc. Woo-hoo! My grandbaby is going to eat healthy!!! --Cee-- - cyndikrall RealSimple Saturday, August 18, 2007 11:35 PM Re: [RealSimple] Fw: Heritage News and Chickens! Guest guest
Mama knows best! LOL. Good for you, that's wonderful news. Even vegetarianism is unhealthy if it means eating processed foods. Now, if you can get them on raw milk, and to give up that microwave, your work is done. ;-)I didn't know your parents started eating meat and fish again. That's good news too. :-) Do you know what the baby is going to be yet? Are you too too excited? I know the answer to that already, lol. Please let us know when he or she is born! Not kidding either. The only way around that currently is to have a "part share" of a grass eating cow and you have to P/U, milk, etc., yourself...which is not something he's willing to do...at least yet, LOL! >> I didn't know your parents started eating meat and fish again. Yep, that's a very recent development, but both mom and dad are extremely pleased with the results. My dad's cholesterol has actually plummeted since eating fish again, and my mom's 10 year battle with exceed has all but disappeared. All those processed soy products were NOT good for them... As for the baby, she is a girl to be named 'Savanna,' and yes I am THRILLED beyond words! It still cracks me up when people ask me how old my babies are, and I tell them I have a 29 son with a grandbaby on the way. Hahahahaha! (One lady's dentures actually fell out!!!)
