Hey! Skip down to "the buzz" and read the 2nd half, which happens to pertain to Ellen's favorite sweetener, STEVIA. The article incorrectly identifies stevia as being sold as a sweetener (which we all know is NOT the case because big business has blocked it from being sold as such and currently it is sold as an herbal "supplement"), but the good news is that it may soon come true! Depends on how it all shakes out with Coca-Cola company patents, but the fact that big business is finally trying to get in on it instead of fighting it is good news to me. I still think soda is junk, but I hope to see more "naturally sweetened" products on the market for the sake of kids who drink all the chemical sweeteners out there...

Get MAXed Out!

New Products Alert!Diet Pepsi MAX - Looking for an extra ZAP of caffeine in your diet soda? Check out Diet Pepsi MAX. It's got extra caffeine (almost TWICE as much as regular Diet Pepsi) and a hint of ginseng to help keep you energized (but still no calories, because it is diet soda -- duh). Popchips - Yeah, the aisles are overflowing with healthier chips, but these are actually "popped" (not baked or fried), all natural, and made from ingredients like wholesome potatoes, organic white corn and whole-grain brown rice. They come in a slew of awesome flavors and are worth checking out (we've tried them all and they ROCK!!!). FYI, an ounce of each (about 20 chips) has 120 calories, 4 - 5g fat, and 2 - 3 Points!Old Orchard Healthy Balance Pomegranate - If you love pomegranate juice b ut hate all the sugar, check out the first-ever reduced-sugar version of the stuff. Sweetened with Splenda, it's part of the company's popular Healthy Balance line of juice cocktails, and it has 75 percent less sugar (and 75% fewer carbs and calories) than most other pom juice products. Each 8-oz. serving has just 29 calories, which means you could guzzle 16 ounces of the stuff for just 1 Point!!!

The Buzz...A recent study, conducted by the Salk Institute and Mars, Inc., suggests that chocolate may improve memory. It found that a group of mice that were fed flavonols (which are present in some chocolate products) and exercised showed better memory capacity than the other mice. Does this mean that chowing down on candy bars and running on the treadmill could help "jog" (get it?!) your memory? Perhaps. But all we can think about now is those mice pigging out on chocolate while running on little treadmills. Click here to read more about it. ***Speaking of working out, there's new evidence< STRONG> that suggests working out for long periods of time (more than 30 minutes) may actually boost good cholesterol levels. The research review, published in Archives of Internal Medicine, says at least two hours per week of aerobic exercise (like walking, biking or swimming), preferably in sessions lasting for more than half an hour, may boost your HDL (the good stuff). ***Lots of people have been buzzing about stevia (an herb currently sold for use as a natural, calorie-free sweetener). Well, you may be hearing a lot more about it soon, because Coca-Cola has filed 24 patent applications that would give them the exclusive rights to develop and sell a specific form of the stuff in beverages. Veeeerry interesting... BTW, the tentative name for this stevia product is rebiana. More soon -- for now, that's all we've got. HG out!
