Guest guest
WOW!!! I am totally impressed!!!! What a great selection of stuff! Can you believe everything you were able to find once you started looking around? Even honey and sauerkraut! That's more than I can say, nothing like that at farms around here, only at stores, which are NOT the same. Good for you, Sluggy! I bet you are way excited about finding all this great food. Let us know how you like the sausage and bacon, and all the rest. :-)Cyndi, eating HER weight in strawberries and cherries too...... In a message dated 6/5/2007 11:04:21 A.M. Though being early yet in the growing season here, we did get some awesom salad mix, spinach, radishes, strawberries, rhubarb & herbs. They also ground their own garlic from last season into powder and we each got a 1/2 pint jar of that. Noah had a blast checking out the gardens and greenhouses and I think ate his weight in fresh picked strawberries.lol Now I have to dig out a strawberry-rhubarb pie recipe as I've never cooked rhubarb before. On the way home from the farm, we past someone putting up a honey sign, so we'll be checking that out next Monday for a local honey source. DH & I also went on Sat. to check out an organic farm I found online. We took 2 coolers and hauled home free range eggs, organic beef, pork and raw milk. These are the folks that do nitrate free hot dogs/bacon/sausage and smoked meats too so I can't wait to try the NF bacon & sausage we hauled home. She also had raw sauerkraut from a neighboring farmer that sells that but we passed on it this time....just ran out of room and money.lol We found out that they will deliver to us if our order is over X$$s so that would be great to not have to drive there every month if we are pressed for time that month. Just thought I'd share.....;-) sluggy See what's free at AOL.com.

Guest guest
Sluggy, you are one lucky lady!!! I wish I had a farm near by like that! Enjoy your luck! Guest guest
Good for you, Sluggy! I bet you are way excited about finding all this great food. Let us know how you like the sausage and bacon, and all the rest. :-) Cyndi, eating HER weight in strawberries and cherries too...... ********************** Well we've eaten quite a bit already.....I've got company here so it's even easier as much as we have.lol We've had salads w/the greens, radishes in the salad too. I made a spinach souffle like thing last night(used a free range egg in that too). Today's lunch was hamburgers w/the ground beef we got. The raw milk is just about gone too. I've got the NF sausage and bacon defrosting today for tomorrow's breakfast. I made a strawberry/rhubarb pie this morning and I've got a loaf of multi-grain bread rising in the kitchen. This is going to be interesting though as I'll have to wait til I get my produce on Mondays to plan and shop for meals for the rest of the week, since I won't know what I'm getting til I pick up on Monday. Have fun with those strawberries! ;-) Sluggy

Very lean(as is the ground beef) and so much more dense. Of course w/out all those nasty chemicals in it, it's not all red/pink so that has taken the kids some getting use to. They say the sausage is good too....I'm not a big sausage fan so I take their word for it. The ground beef has so much more Flavor too....plus the color is so deep compared to the store bought stuff. Haven't tried the pork ribs yet. And next order we'll get some chickens. I found another local honey source too by talking with my CSA farmer. This week's CSA pick-up saw the last of the strawberries for us.....sniff....sniff.....I've already polished those off.;;-) We're lousy with salad greens still, radishes and the beginning of the carrots are coming in too. I put some plants in at home too. I forgot to try that bucket tomato plant that hangs upside down thing....oh well, maybe next year. What plants the local bunny hasn't eaten are coming up good except for the green peppers & the chrysanthemums. I also found a health food store a decent drive away from home. I spent hours in there just looking and reading labels. Got out with Only $170 missing from my wallet.lol I'm all about the sprouted grain bread now. ;-) There's a farm I need to try out this weekend.....I hear rumours that they sell raw milk among other things and it's alot closer than the meat source so I can get milk in between orders from there and not be running out for weeks at a time. My daughter has been having gastro-intestinal problems the last 6 months or so whenever she drank store bought milk-even the organic stuff. And trust me, she drinks TONS of milk!lol I had her start taking bromelain and her symptons got better after a week. After she started drinking the raw milk too, she had Zero problems. Unfortunately we ran out and she drank the store bought again and guess what?.....her symptons returned. hmmmm sluggy
Guest guest
I'm not surprised Holly felt better on the raw milk, a lot of people report the exact same thing. I hope you can find a good source for it! Grass fed meat is naturally leaner, and does have that stronger taste. I recently got some GF beef bones for making soup, and I can't begin to tell you how wonderful they taste! Some people don't like that stronger taste, but I like it. I get a sprouted grains bread out here called Ezekial bread. I love it! It is soooo flavorful. It's good even without any mayo or mustard. Great toasted with raw butter. :-) We haven't tried the sausage or bacon, since we don't eat much of that, but my kids love them, so I'll try it one of these days, since yours like it so much! My tomatoes and peppers are doing ok. The peppers seem to like the heat, but the tomatoes are struggling. I moved the pots over to where they'd get afternoon shade. They have some kind of bug on them that eats the new growth, so I have to go out and hose them off all the plants every morning. I have one eggplant in a pot too, and it's doing very well, but has those bugs on it too, ugh. I couldn't do the hanging tomatoes this year-the only place to hang them would have been on the front porch and Kail said I was plain nuts, lol. The tomatoes I've eaten off the plants are AMAZING! They taste so wonderful! I had forgotten how much better homegrown tomatoes taste-I thought I remembered, but boy was I wrong! they are AWESOME. The peppers are almost ripe, and the eggplant is just starting to bloom now. Well, that's the farm report, lolol. ;-)Cyndi In a message dated 6/27/2007 8:16:26 A.M.
